The DBX 286s is a Channel Strip processor that features a studio-quality mic preamplifier and four processors. Depending on your needs, these processors can be used all at once, or separately. I leave this off because it gives you less dynamic range, but if you're in a room with a hum below that frequency, experiment with turning it on. The high frequency enhancer works to add definition and crispness to vocals, guitars and other instruments. It's basically magic. Expander/Gate Users have noted that one downside is the absence of a power button on the machine, which can be slightly annoying. Some have also noted that the device emitted a low hissing sound which would have to be removed in audio editing later.

Set LF Detail and HF Detail to around 2 and 3. If you've got a low voice then you won't need to add more bass, the same goes if you've got a high voice, so try and level it out by adjusting the knobs. The best way to set this is to say " S-ssss", then adjust it until you're happy with the result and it works with your voice. Enhancer The sound of this mic preamp can be summed in a few words, focused and articulate. It sounds far more expensive than it actually is, and it’s miles better than any built-in mic pres on an audio interface. For vocals, the sound is absolutely stellar, even if you’re using an inexpensive condenser microphone. The ability to record DI makes it an excellent choice for guitars and other instruments too.
