Description

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. Thank You to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press and T.M Logan for the digital ARC I received in exchange for a candid review!

Lies: From the million-copy Sunday Times bestselling author

The book begins with this epigraph: It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend.” William BlakeI love this author! I read 29 seconds last year and after I read that one I was hooked and wanted to read all of the author's books. Why would a mother abandon her child to a stranger? Ellen is about to discover that the baby in her arms might hold the key to an unspeakable crime. And doing the right thing might just cost her everything . Unable to trust the woman he loves, Joe finds himself at the mercy of her revelations and deceits, unsure of who or what to believe. All he knows is that her actions have brought someone dangerous into their lives―someone obsessed with her and determined to tear Joe’s world apart. A young mother (Kathryn) on a train asks a complete stranger (Ellen) to watch her baby (Mia) while she makes a phone call. (HUH?)

The concept of lies and lying is an interesting one to ponder. How do we know if someone is lying to us? I find that most of us think we would know if someone close to us is lying. We can read them, read their tics, know their tells. The problem is, we often don’t recognize when we are being lied to by our closest confidants, because we don’t want to believe they are lying. Once you know someone’s lies, will you ever see them the same again? Psychological thriller about a man who makes a spur of the moment decision that destroys his seemingly happy life in an instant. This one had some major twists at the end and I ended up really liking it. The first half seemed a bit slow and several times I really wanted conversations to happen between characters! I found this one to be a great summer read. This book had more characters than narrators and at times, it was difficult to identify who was who. I knew I wanted to write so journalism seemed an obvious choice, and after five years as a reporter and then education correspondent on the Nottingham Evening Post I moved to London to work on the Daily Mail. At the Mail I became the paper’s Science Reporter, covering all kinds of stories from new technology to the environment, space, genetics, health and medicine. I enjoyed being a national newspaper journalist but it didn’t leave much time for anything else – like thriller writing.

Lies

All told though if you put that to one side its a superb read, doesn’t make much sense anno, it’s hard to put in words great writing and not such a good story! Sifakis, Stewart. Who Was Who in the Civil War. New York: Facts On File, 1988. ISBN 978-0-8160-1055-4. The plot on occasions seemed rather complicated and for me the biggest question was WHY? There were other plot strands and I couldn’t work out how they were connected. There was a point when I became too suspicious and worked out the who. TRUST ME was the second book I read about a woman giving her baby to a complete stranger at a random moment. WOMAN ON THE EDGE by Samantha Baily was the first.
