Description

Traditional cat litter ends up in the garbage, which then ends up in a landfill. Because these conventional clumping litters are designed to swell when exposed to water, they actually end up taking up even more space in landfills, which is concerning if you think about how many cat owners are dumping their cat litter into the trash. If you’re looking for environmentally-friendly cat litter, the most important things to look for include the material used, the manufacturing process and how the litter is disposed of after use.

Cost per kilo– we calculated the average cost of buying each cat litter online (not including delivery costs). For starters, it’s Tofu. It’s safe to eat, for cats and humans (although we wouldn’t recommend making your tea with it). But this makes it perfect for curious kittens or cats with pica syndrome who might eat their litter. Below are the essential notes, but if you want to know everything about our Really Great Cat Litter, you can read our blog post. It has a clean, white colour instead of grey as most other clay litters are. As such it always looks clean and fresh. What we do know though, is that it works. It’s super absorbent and forms easy-to-scoop clumps. They’re not particularly hard which is a good job because the manufacturer says it’s flushable. They don’t smell either. Because we believe so much in this product, we launched our own Really Great Cat Litter and we think it's the best tofu cat litter available. We went with natural, unscented, and uncolored because we think that's overall a better option for both people and cats.

No chemicals, perfumes or deodorants are used as this litter is able to naturally control odours. Many cats tend to prefer non-scented litter so if your cat tends to be fussy or sensitive, this is a good option to try. This clay litter is also hypoallergenic and is perfect for cats and families who suffer from allergies. On the whole though, because it clumped so well, there was very little waste. A bag of Dr Elsey’s Ultra lasted longer than other clumping litters we tested. Biokat’s Diamond Care is a natural clay litter that contains aloe vera to help care for your cat’s paws and natural active carbon to eliminate odours.

Generally clumping cat litter has smaller particles, this helps it clump but this also creates a lot more dust make it a bad choice for anyone who suffers from asthma. Instead of being a wood pellet cat litter, it uses a wood fibre technology called the ‘Intelligent Capillary System’. The manufacturer says, ‘it absorbs liquids and odours and encapsulates them deep inside the wood fibre’. Once the litter was in the tray the boys had another little smell to see what all the fuss was about. Not all litter is flushable, especially clay and silica. If you want to flush it though, make sure you choose a flushable litter.

The pellets are lightweight and easy to clean up. This is a non-clumping litter that is dust-free and 100% biodegradable. You can dispose of soiled litter in a compost heap, in the household waste bin or it can be burned. Made from 100% natural materials and with no added fragrance, this is a great option for a single cat home and homes with fussy or sensitive cats. The mineral protection of each granule ensures reliability and long-lasting odour control without any added ingredients. Again, this could be marketing gobbledegook. But we did test both scented and non-scented versions of Ever Clean’s litter. They both did an excellent job at controlling odours. Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring mycotoxin which is produced by a fungus, it can grow on corn, particularly corn that has been exposed to moisture. Tofu cat litter is made from natural organic ingredients, so it is susceptible to mold if not stored properly. The solution is simple: Store your tofu cat litter in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space. While tofu cat litter does have the potential to go moldy, if you store it correctly, this shouldn’t be an issue. PriceThere is also the fact that regular litter tends to produce a lot of dust once it is poured. Breathing in these particles is not very good for your lungs, and your cat won’t particularly enjoy navigating through huge dust clouds either. But tofu litter produces zero dust! That’s a huge advantage over other litters. 3. 100% Eco-friendly To be honest, we’re not fans of scented litter. A lot of cats don’t like it either. Most just cover up one bad smell with an overpowering floral smell.

Catching the moisture before it gets to the bottom of the tray helps to control odours effectively. This odour control makes it an ideal option for multi-cat households as it will keep your home smelling fresh all day long. On the flip side, litters that don’t clump are cheaper and often contain less dust. And there’s no risk of it expanding in your cat’s stomach if they eat it. Also, it’s not ideal for multiple cats. We found that if a clump dried and got we again, it could turn a bit mushy.Knowing how often to change cat litter is important for a number of reasons, from hygiene to encouraging your kitty to make use of it. If you're scooping daily (which is definitely advisable) and investing in clumping cat litter, then you may only need to change litter every two to three weeks. It's also worth going the extra yard and learning how to clean a litter box for maximum efficiency. Cat litter started out as non-clumping, there’s a wide range of materials that fall into this category meaning cat owners can enjoy plenty of choices. The unbleached white granules are made from quartz and limestone which absorb liquid like a sponge and prevent bacteria growth. The natural white colour of the litter keeps the litter tray visibly hygienic and fresh. Users also find the light colour makes it easy to see when a clean is required. Avoiding corn based cat litter is a simple way you can protect your cat against Aflatoxin. Clumping Vs Non-Clumping Cat Litter
