Description

Leather-wrapped wheel with 25 action buttons, 1 push-button and 4 rotary selectors natively recognized in GT Sport (differential braking, traction control, fuel mapping, torque management) On a straight level road, I'm using AUTO because that's the fastest gear, and it won't downshift on me then. On almost any other terrain, I use the appropriate manual gear. Read my comment again I never said I would only use high on straight roads I said mostly straight as I would not use high in a place where there was continuous 90 degree turns for example as i could not maintain the speed. But despite not being able to compete with a true loadcell brake. The T3PA-Pro conical brake is almost, almost there. It adds a new dimension in terms of braking quality compared to other Thrustmaster solutions. And it should be your go to setup for a Thrustmaster pedal set.

I replaced potentiometers on my thrustmaster pedals (T3PA) with non-original potentiometers (cheapest, lowest quality ones I could find locally as per Thrustmaster standards). I want to share how. This introduces progressive braking, and can be configured in a range of configurations to adjust the progression rate. The conical brake mod can add up to 70 pounds of extra resistance in to your brake pedal. One of the key improvements of the T3PA pedals, once you’ve looked past the third pedal, is the inclusion of a brake mod. This optional brake mod changes how the brake pedal reacts, and adds a slightly more realistic feel to the pedal progression. We’ll look at this in more detail further in to this review. They allow for floor mounted or inverted pedal mounting positions. This in turn, allows you to set up your pedals to mimic a range of driving setups. You can floor mount them for formula style driving. Or invert them for GT and road cars. If I wanted to fit a variable resistor into the circuit to adjust the 'gain' of the pedal (i.e. adjust how much force would produce 100% braking in game) where would I put it in the wiring? What value would you recommend? 0 - 1 KOhm?, 0 - 10 Ohm? etc...

Our Verdict

These pro pedals bring a lot to the table. They combine elements from other Thrustmaster pedals to create the best Thrustmaster pedal set to date. The option to choose between two sets of brake mod and the customization of the pedal layout make for one of the most versatile pedal sets on the market. Overall, when compared to the two pedal set, the T3PA pedals do ooze a much more professional quality. We would say that almost any two pedal setup isn’t ideal, but this jump from the two pedals to the three feels rather more significant. In theory, these T3PA-Pro pedals are the perfect almagamtion of the best braking technology and product design. We’ve been testing these pedals for a while now with our T500 RS. And we’ve written this review to help you decide whether it is worth you buying these T3PA-Pro pedals We would definitely recommend installing this rubber cone, as it dramatically increases the performance and feeling of the brake. Over time you will be able to brake more consistently and realistically, than you could without it. So I will add an excel spreadsheet with more technical info. And make your own decisions, I was willing to modify the plastic gears, you might not be. Maybe find some 10K logarithmic pots with correct shaft, I did not, because it was faster for me this way.

The pedals themselves offer a huge amount of customization. This is possibly our favorite part of the pedals. You can adjust the spacing between each pedal by mounting the pedal plate in one of three locations. You may think on first impression that these look identical to the already existing T500RS pedals. And, well they are certainly very similar. But that is for good reason. The T500RS pedals feature the best product design of any Thrustmaster pedal set to date. This allows you to run a closer brake and throttle pedal for heel and toe downshifting, if that’s your style.

Manual

By being able to adjust each pedal in to three different configurations, you will find it much easier to get a good setup for your preference. Many race cars in real life feature a brake and throttle pedal which are mounted closer together. These pedals are fully compatible with all modern Thrustmaster wheel bases, and represent a considerable upgrade for all sets that don’t already come with the T3PA. Whereas the input mechanism of some other manufacturers’ pedals are onboard, Thrustmaster leaves the heavy lifting to the wheel base – so there’s no need to fret over input resolution here. The footrest features an almost industrial style metal grip plate. And quite honestly, we really dig it. It looks hefty and it isn’t as slippery as you may think from first impressions. There are "logitech legacy" and "directinput" settings that are somewhat generic and may require you to set up your buttons yourself. Shifters that are separate USB devices don't seem to be supported, unless they are listed above.

You can adjust where you place this rubber mod to give the brake pedal a few different sensations. You can place it towards the base of the pedal if you prefer a long brake pedal. This will give you a slight increase in resistance as you near the end of the brake travel. Side-note, yes, all TM budget pedals are terrible, yes, there are better options, we all know this. But working terrible pedals are better then non-working ones (not by much though in case of TM). Thrustmaster have been making the right steps towards the ultimate pedal set for a while. The base pedals you get with some Thrustmaster wheels come with only two pedals and are just not fit for sim racing. My local online electronics shop had something similar for the taper (still not a guarantee will work) but delivery time was too long and the price was ~10€ for a single pot, and the shaft did not mach (need D shaft, had knurled shaft), and if I have to guess the TM paid 0.5 - 1.5 euros per pot, most likely well below 1€, and I do not think there is value in spending 10€ for single potentiometer, since pedals are terrible to begin with, and if you want to spend more, then do a hall-effect sensor conversion or a load-cell, or buy a better pedal set. Cheap fix for cheap pedals is the name of the game here. One of the most common questions we get is – do Fanatec pedals work with Thrustmaster wheel? This is due to Fanatec producing some of the best sim racing pedal peripherals on the market. The Fanatec CSL Elite LC pedals are one of the best entry level pedals available, the LC standing for load cell. Both of these sets feature considerable options for adjusting the height, angle and pitch of the pedals – and both include mod options for the brake pedal (one with the T3PA, two with the Pro) for tweaking the feel and required braking force. Further mods are available both from Thrustmaster as well as third-party manufacturers.
