Rated 5100BTU, the EcoFlow Wave 2 is enough for around a 10m², so smaller rooms, camper vans and tents. On maximum power, we found that it could keep our office room at sensible temperatures, although we did have to shield our south-facing room from the sun for it to cope. If you’re a very light sleeper, you may need something quieter. For reference, 30 dB is considered equivalent to the sound of whispering, whilst 10 dB is considered similar to the sound of breathing. Like Princess’ traditional tower fan below, this connects to a user-friendly app and is compatible with voice control. It also feels sturdy and has a good range of air strengths. It's not tall though, and it only oscillates 50 degrees, meaning it works best when positioned nearby and directed at one or two people. ENERGY SAVING - This energy-efficient hot and cool fan, also a bladeless heater fan, conserves energy while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere.

There are a whole host of fan styles to choose between, from compact handheld fans that are great for taking out and about, to desk fans that allow you to place the fan on a convenient surface (if you have the space) so that the fan blows directly at you whilst your sitting and working, and tower and pedestal fans that can be placed on the floor and are great for the side of a bed or to cool a larger area. The type of fan that works best for your needs tends to depend on how and where you plan to use the fan, so thinking about placement before you shop can help to avoid costly mistakes. Power source Lastly, a panel of testers sit in a room kept at 30 degrees with each fan for half an hour and assess how comfortable it makes them (yes, really). Every model is then scored according to its performance, ease of use, design and product information. TRANQUILLITY ENHANCED - Experience silence with our ultra-silent bladeless fan heater, an ideal air purifier and heater for serene environments. Whilst a fan won't dramatically reduce the temperature of a room in the same way that one of the best portable air conditioners can, by moving the air within a room and keeping that airflow circulating, the breeze a fan creates will cool your skin and make hot and humid conditions far more bearable. This unit also has the largest LCD screen on this list, which is simple and easy to read with push-button controls. Operating similarly to a furnace (which uses forced air), the Vornado has a heating capacity of 256 square feet, with two heating settings, low (750 watts) and high (1,500 watts), and a fan-only mode. We love that it is Energy Star-certified, and has an adjustable thermostat that will keep the heat and circulation levels high enough to maintain your desired temperature.Tower fans work by blowing air over your skin, making living, working and sleeping more comfortable when the thermometer rises. All in all, whilst it may cost significantly more than a budget fan, the MeacoFan 1056 Air Circulator offers so many added extras that it's definitely our first choice when it comes to beating the heat. A combination fan heater is a space-saving appliance you never need to store, perfect for heating or cooling year-round. Available in a variety of sizes and designs, these units typically come with multiple fan speeds and heater settings that you use separately. Some even have a mode that allows you to use the heater and the fan at the same time, helping to better circulate the warm air in the room. You can even find units that add even more features, such as an air purifier or a humidifier to the mix. Not all fans will oscillate, but they’re much better at circulating air if they can. For personal use, oscillation isn’t quite as important; however, the best bladeless fans will oscillate between 180 – 360 ° . This makes them more versatile overall, and better for use when more than one person is in the room. The problem with fans is that they’re great during the hot weather but just take up space when it gets cold. Things don’t have to be that way, as the Princess Smart Heating and Cooling Tower shows. As the name fully describes, this is a tower fan that also has a heating mode. To top things off it even has a smart app.

Needless to say, mine still managed to go missing a few years ago, but getting a replacement wasn’t hard at all. I’d say when operating the fan from the unit itself, the buttons are a little awkward to press, so you really want to look after the remote – especially when using regularly during the summertime. All in all, the Russell Hobbs 12" Scandi Desk Fan looks good, isn't too expensive, and if you're not going to use it too often then it does the job of blowing air towards you during particularly hot and clammy days. If you're willing to invest more for quieter operation and better performance, then there are better fans to be found in this edit. Bladeless fans are getting more multi-functional by the second, and the electriQ Bladeless Quiet Tower Fanis no exception. You might not even have considered combining a colourful mood light with a fan unit, but it can be a surprisingly useful feature. Most, but not all, bladeless fans will be able to oscillate. The degree of the oscillation may also vary. Some bladeless fans are able to oscillate through 360°, whilst those designed for desktop use may oscillate around 90°. If you’re hoping for the fan to circulate air around a smaller room, 360° oscillation may help you better achieve this. Otherwise, for personal cooling, 90° will likely be sufficient. Decibel Noise Level Tower fans are a great space saver but they often sacrifice power to get a slimmer body. Not so with the VonHaus 35″ Tower Fan, which manages to deliver some of the best fan performance that we’ve seen, both up close and across a room.We found the heat mode to be reliable, too. This fan can help push a cold room into a comfortable space, and the thermostat helps cut down on electricity bills, as the heater will turn off automatically when the right temperature has been reached. There are a couple of negatives to note. The first is that the power cable is a little short at 1.4 m. Some users may require an extension cord. The fan itself is also made from lightweight plastic. While this aids portability, it’s not the most robust on the market.

Likelihood is you’ll want to use the fan whilst sleeping in the summer, which means looking for something that ideally produces under 50 dB of noise. This is roughly the same level as the hum of a refrigerator. It's impressive stuff, but if you purely want a fan that performs well, then in our opinion, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool HP09 Formaldehyde is an investment you don't need to make. Meaco and Duux offer fans with comparable cooling effects for considerably less cash, but if you're also considering investing in an air purifier, and you have the budget for a Dyson fan's super-cool good looks, this is a stylish investment you may be happy to make. We’ve been impressed with Evapolar’s previous personal evaporative coolers, and the Evapolar evaSMART is the best yet. It’s a little expensive compared to other evaporative coolers, but its smart features and envelope of cold air make it well worth the cash. Unless a fan shouts about it having a DC motor, it's likely to be an AC motor in operation. That's because DC motors are significantly more expensive and so tend to only be used by manufacturers trying to make best-in-class products. As Chris Michael, managing director of air quality specialist Meaco, says 'A DCfanis more expensive to manufacture than an ACfanbut for the consumer, they are much better. A fan with a DC motor will be quieter, use less energy to produce the same results, tend to be more powerful, can offer more variation in fan speeds, and should last longer'. Air displacement

My Top Recommended Bladeless Fans

WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL - Effortlessly control our hot and cold air purifier fan, adjusting settings remotely for maximum convenience.

This 75-watt unit comes with a remote control and offers three fan speeds (low, medium, and high), three wind modes (sleep, normal, and natural), and a sleep timer. You can also operate these features easily on the control panel at the top of the unit. The slats on the front of the unit can be adjusted up to 70 degrees up or down, and they oscillate 120 degrees from side to side in “swing” mode. While it’s not the most stylish or portable option on our list, it’s mounted on heavy-duty wheels (caster) that allow you to roll it around your home for indoor and outdoor use. High-power mode: A pre-set mode that will instantly choose the highest power settings to give a strong blast of air. Combining an air purifier with an oscillating fan, the U ULTTY Bladeless Fan with Air Purifier filters and cleans whilst it cools. However, it's a solid performer, its low energy consumption is very impressive, and it's one of the simplest fans to operate at its level of performance, and – when temperatures rise and patience gets frayed as a result – that simplicity could well be worth its weight in gold. Keep this in mind if you’re after a fan you can easily move around the house. If it’s going to stay in one place, a heavier one should be fine, but opt for a lightweight model if you’ll be carrying it between rooms every day. Smart capabilities I would have liked the Vortex to be a bit taller (it’s 85.6cm compared to the Dyson at 100.7cm), as it think this would help keep you cool with tasks such as reading in bed, but it certainly isn’t a problem when you’re lying down. We found this a good fan for small- to medium-sized rooms. On its high setting, the fan reached an airspeed of 3.2m/s at a distance of 15cm. That’s good but there are more powerful fans that are better suited to larger rooms. At this speed, we found that the fan wobbled slightly, too. At 1m distance, the fan speed was still a decent 2.2m/s, providing a noticeable cool airflow. We were impressed with how quiet this fan was: at 15cm, we measured it at 66.2dB, and at 1m, it was just 50.3dB. Why should you invest in one of the most expensive fans in our round-up? Because the Duux Whisper really does live up to its name. It's the quietest fan we've tested and virtually silent on its lowest settings. This makes it the perfect fan for the bedroom, and, even on its most powerful settings with its 13-50 dB noise levels it remains the quietest fan we've come across.
