This item is pre-built and unboxed, and must be collected from our ex-display warehouse at South Portway Close, Northampton. Not everyone is going to want a bike that can stand up to a rigorous schedule of intense spinning workouts, day after day.

The flywheel runs super silent and operates on magnetic resistance, and there are 32 levels – plenty to get your heart pumping or to make for an easy warm down. The magnetic flywheel is smooth, although it’s not particularly quiet, so the rest of the house may not thank you if you’re working out in the early AM. Exercise bikes are always on show in your home and the UK manufacturer Apex has clearly put a lot of thought into how their bike will look in whatever room you put it in. But the user interface isn’t quite as slick as Peloton, and the graphics and sound aren’t as good quality. It runs on personality – even the most reluctant of cyclists would struggle to stay demotivated when faced with Peloton’s peppy instructors who encourage you to push and pedal from an immersive touchscreen.This allows you to set yourself up with online spin classes if you need that added motivation, or if you are so inclined you could even just set up your favourite Netflix show – we’d perhaps suggest the former would be more conducive to a solid workout. Then, along came a new wave of connected bikes, which offered up a more sophisticated, connected, in-saddle experience, complete with impossibly upbeat instructors.

Pitched as ‘budget friendly equipment’, Roger Black Fitness has a few exercise bikes to choose from but this premium option sticks to a decent budget. A staple in any home gym environment, racer bikes are designed to simulate hill climbing and sprinting, demanding high intensity to maximise calorie burn.It also has auto-adjusting resistance, so you don’t even need to lift a finger to go up a gear in time with the instructor on-screen. It features a quick-lock friction pad to easily change the intensity of the ride, and has all the adjustments you need for a comfortable experience. Assembly was problem-free and there’s good adjustability, comfort and stability, which all add to the bike’s appeal. Features an LCD monitor with heart rate feedback, tablet holder, water bottle holder plus free water bottle.

The seat is more comfortably padded than most bikes I tested, but the frame isn’t as sturdy, nor is the resistance as responsive. It’s also worth noting that the trainers are British spin instructors from the boutique Boom Cycle studio in London, which may be more palatable to those who find Peloton’s earnest instructors and affirmations a bit cheesy.IC14 may not have the catchiest of names, but what Body Power didn’t deliver in fancy titles they more than made up for in style and design. I particularly enjoyed the themed music rides, but there are plenty of others to choose from ranging from 15 minutes to an hour.
