About this deal

Whilst I mentioned it in my “Baker’s Dozen: 13 Roses for Anyone Feeling Unlucky in Love”, The Dandy could find no evidence of a full review of the fragrance, though I knew in my heart of hearts I’d penned one! An inexpensive yet beautifully blended retro fragrance to take you back in time to those summer days and nights. Rather than launching countless insignificant watery confections, Coty should revive this historical compositions as lovely memory of François Coty. The first spritz is an energizing freshness derived from aldehydes, old fashioned gorgeous aldehydes which are the signature mark of any great vintage fragrance. This one opens brighter and fresher and the aldehydes feel a lot more airy here than they do in No 5, where they're so dense in the opening that it gives the fragrance an almost oily feel.

I've read that women on a budget in the late 20s and 30s would quietly ask at the perfume counters for the "No. Much speculation exists as to whether or not Coty got hold of the Chanel no 5 formula or even that Coty had it originally and no 5 was the copy? On me, I don't get the distinct version of ANY of the notes that are listed in the description on the Fragrantica site.It has great sillage and the dry-down is gorgeous, I get a bit of spice that the refined Chanel No5 doesn't have. He currently divides his time between work in user experience design, painting, and his independent perfume company, January Scent Project. She pauses, fixes her regard on me: 'Oh of course, I knew all along this was a very male sort of a crime, didn't you?

Freddie also gave me a vial of Miel de Bois - he is a self-styled "enfant terrible" after all, and it was every drop the evil honeyed thing of my traumatised memory - and one of actual perfumer's ambergris (1 year old 1% black ambergris tincture to be precise), which I was very excited to smell. The most predominant notes are vanilla and musk, with hint of tonka that comes across with an almost coconut-like smoothness. Bourjois Soir de Paris - cute (and by the looks of it rather old) mini, sadly inaccessible due to the neck being bunged up with sticky and impenetrable black gunk. It is not powdery or cheap smelling at all, it's a very peach/vanilla/sandalwood/incense oriental in the vein of Shalimar and Chanel Coco that is absolutely intoxicating, and it lasts for an eternity.

Generally the Coty perfumes, to my nose, really are worth looking out for as vintages because they had a certain something back in the day that's changed considerably since.
