The new art commissioned by FFG for the compact set of ice tiles clearly displays the number of fish on each tile with lively and colorful renditions. Consult The Google for variations—my personal one is a large hex with the center hex/ice flow missing.

The board is made up of small tiles, so this can be a bit fiddly and smaller children might mess it up a bit while playing, but they'll be able to join in too. It’s not a game I’m busting out a lot on my phone or tablet and is something I have used for friends kids or as a quick intro game with my parents before we fire up a slightly more in depth and engaging app for them such as Ticket to Ride. Even though it is a simple game there is still an air of strategy to it for more experienced board gamers. The open hex in the center gives players a hint of what’s to come and also keeps someone from moving from one corner of the board to another.

We had trouble setting up the game with loads of tiny hexagons fitted into a pattern and then the game play was far too simple and pointless.

If no more moves can be taken, or if all penguins have been removed back to the players' collection, the fish on the tiles are counted and the player with the most fish wins. And when a penguin can't move, it's removed from play with its owner claiming the tile on which it stands. The next pro is that the game has enough strategy and modularity that it has several metric tons of replayability. The aim is to get as many fish on a random hexagonal board before the board itself melts away, leaving you trapped on an isolated ice floe like a tiny, elderly inuit.Players take turns using their waddle of penguins to outmanoeuvre their opponents and catch as many fish as they can without being trapped on an ice floe! years after its original release, Next Move Games is making sure the penguins continue to get their fish.
