About this deal

This duo works perfectly for charging a phone and a set of wireless headphones as you do your work and proved to save space on my desk compared to using separate, dedicated chargers for my iPhone and AirPods. The StudioDock’s HDMI port supports 4K monitors at 60Hz and should be ideal for iPad dual-display setups, but the software isn’t really there yet on Apple’s part. This additional height, without the need to balance an encased iPad on a stack of books or an ugly laptop stand, also makes it great for video.

You’d have to be really into the iPad-as-work-machine lifestyle for this to make sense for you, but the StudioDock and iPad Pro combination is a fast, fun computer that does most of what I want it to. if I dont use internet on an active app, than dropbox steps back a bit to not interrupt my work/browsing). The new 11-inch iPad Pro should be unaffected, because its dimensions are the same as last year’s model.Based in Columbus, Ohio, Andrew O'Hara has spent the last eight years embedded in all aspects of the digital space from leading digital marketing teams to front-end web development and design. You won’t get the fastest speeds out of them, but the ability to charge a phone and AirPods throughout the day is useful and saves space on your desk compared to separate pads. I would’ve liked to see one more USB-C port available on the StudioDock, but considering the entire device is connected to the iPad through a single USB-C port, the reality is you’d only ever be able to get half the maximum bandwidth of a USB-C connection, even if no other ports were being used. Most cases have a way of flipping the tablet into a horizontal viewing position and nowadays all of the tablets can take a BT keyboard, mouse, and external USB port/SD card plugin.

Now that iPadOS has proper mouse/trackpad support as well as the ability to use external keyboards, I didn't find myself using the touchscreen much, but it is still an option while attached to the stand. The iPad slots into a magnetic-backed cradle and plugs into a USB-C port (it's not an instant snap-in), From there, the iPad just hangs out on its stand like a monitor. Is the extra optical oomph worth the upgrade over the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3x (77mm equivalent) telephoto? I’m a fan of its base’s thick, round corners, which offer a platform to place your iPhone and AirPods for wireless charging. It doesn’t have the most ports, but there are enough to create an iPad-centric workspace or secondary system. But the incompatibility is unfortunate for such an expensive product, especially since it was only just released. Being able to fold or flatten the StudioDock in some way would improve things, and the same goes for the charger. Apple may have a new iPad Pro coming in just a couple of weeks, though, and if you're thinking about this type of accessory for a new iPad, I'd hold off until we hear more about whether the next iPad Pro will be compatible with it. The headphone jack worked just fine too, although if you have AirPods, it probably won’t get too much action.

Connected to a proper keyboard it could then function as a laptop, while at the same time the device could also function as a worktool for designers and artists. For Zooms and other video chats, that's extremely helpful for getting the iPad camera angle just right. Aspect ratio aside though, outputting the iPad's screen to a dedicated monitor via the HDMI port proved to work well. Probably not, but when it’s fitted to Kensington’s extravagant, stylish, and very versatile StudioDock, that’s exactly what it becomes.

MODERN VERSATILITY: Connect all your devices to one convenient dock, with the four USB ports, one 3. Dropbox on my iPads synchronises fine and is well integrated with Microsoft Office allowing direct editing of those files.

Actual Ethernet speeds may vary depending on, but not limited to, Internet bandwidth, Ethernet cables, network switches, and the hardware and firmware performance of the host computer. We've taken a closer look at the image quality and dynamic range impact of the move to a Stacked CMOS global shutter sensor. As I described in our original news coverage of the device, the StudioDock effectively turns your iPad into an iMac-like workstation, complete with built-in chargers for your phone, wireless headphones and other Qi-enabled devices. If you have a wireless keyboard and mouse (or, just plug in wired ones to the extra ports on the StudioDock), you're good to go. OK, it wasn't *pretty* like this unit, and wireless charging was barely a thing back then; but I keep feeling like Samsung thinks of it and Android implements it, consistently, several years ahead of Apple. This meant I could easily change my iPad’s angle, and even adjust it from portrait to landscape mode. The totally wild Kensington StudioDock pushes the iPad Pro far outside its normal tablet window, and that just makes me want Apple to close the gap and turn this thing into the Swiss Army computer it nearly already is. If you want to use your iPad for drawing then you may find that the StudioDock provides you with a better drawing angle than you'd get from other stands, or with the Magic Keyboard alone.
