About this deal

Riding the 6:20am train to the heart of New York, Devine preps for another day as an analyst, peering out the window for a sliver of excitement.

As a parent, you hope your child is extremely successful and likely become the next Gates, Zuckerberg, or Meg Whitman. Ex-Ranger Travis Devine has left the army under mysterious circumstances, despite having had a successful military career. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file.Because money means power, and power can get you just about anywhere, so long as you don’t step in one of the dozens of minefields. When he does find himself cornered with no way out, he has people looking out for him, including some badass female characters. Incidentally I noticed this interview with Baldacci on FB about WHY he set this in the financial sector. This is just the tip of the iceberg as what is revealed is submerged in very murky waters in this well crafted thriller. It is obvious that Baldacci did his homework regarding military protocols and Wall Street financial inner-workings, and he converts what he learned into easy-to-understand details.

Long conversations that no one ever would have in their entire life just to explain some complicated part of the story, and I suppose to add credibility. I don’t understand why todays authors think they must introduce homosexuals and transgenders into all their narratives. If you have read the book Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right by Jane Mayer (back in 2016) plus other movies and books, a look at the trillion US dollars stolen from all over the world by white-collar criminals, mostly owners or CEOs of banks and corporations. No Travis finds himself the prime suspect, and the target of a government body who want him to investigate the CEO Brad Cowl, in exchange for his army secrets staying that way. As Travis investigates, he unearths secrets from Sara’s past and also realizes that someone is trying to frame him in Sara’s death.

It should be noted that Baldacci’s characters are not always what they seem, and discovering their reality is part of the intrigue of The 6:20 Man. AND this woman (unwittingly) wore different color bikinis to send a signal to SOMEONE on the train (who was never discovered or tracked down) so that some nefarious money laundering scheme could proceed. moments but this is Baldacci we are talking about and he knows exactly how to make a book into a major page turner. I know there’s a follow-up story featuring Travis due out shortly, but I predict that one won’t be finding a place on my bookshelf.

His routine is taking the 6:20 commuter train to work in the city but that all changes when Devine's co-worker/ ex-girlfriend is found dead by hanging inside their office storage room. One would think that by this time, prolific author David Baldacci would have run out of ideas, but his fans will be thrilled to know that is not the case. Loved the writing, loved the supporting characters especially the roommates and it was beautifully done from first page to last. Devine left due to the guilt of having gotten away with a crime that he has not ever forgiven himself for and so, he punishes himself by getting up at 4 in the morning to work out before begrudgingly heading off on the 6:20 train to work in a place that he hates with a passion, grinding away with all of the other “burners” making money for people who don’t need more money. There is someone out there, trying to silence a select few about something that could cause financial chaos should it leak.
