About this deal

My local CVS sold three packs of Fuji Superia and Kodak Gold, so I was well-outfitted for quite a few weeks.

It features super-saturated warm colors that make colors pop, high contrast, and is the closest “look” you’ll get to slide film without actually using slide film. For me, it’s made for compositions where the final image will look different (a good different) from the real world. Concurrent to this article, I made a video over on the Youtube channel (below) giving my thoughts on this film, including the shots in this article and others. However, if you’re anything like me, you’ll probably be shooting the roll of film across a variety of different lighting situations. A late attempt to win in the compact market was hit by the rise of mobile photography and bankruptcy followed in 2012.As you can see, knowing the times of day and how to properly filter can make a big difference in the sky. Yet some of those Ektar 100 pictures (like the one above) I always kept coming back to, despite all the issues, because they simply looked very appealing to me. Shooting situations may change how elgar behaves, and sometimes in the studio my strobes like to give it magenta cast with saturated greens and yellow, and somehow Ektar still looks like a cool toned film. One of the best things about the colour pallete of Ektar in my opinion is the way in renders blue tones, and blue-greens.

Everything I do and what I learn along the way gets shared on here, to inform and inspire you to get out and shoot as much - and as well - as you can too. I could tell the colors were going to be something I was not used to, but to be honest, I was ready for something brand new. Kodak Ektar 100 has one of the best dynamic ranges and consistently produces incredibly striking scenes. I just wish there was a 400 colour film out there that was a bit nicer than Fuji Superia and a bit cheaper than Portra.fast forward to 2018, and Kodak re-introduced slide film with E100, but that’s another chapter of the story!

Since Ektar picks up extra contrast in the shadows, I would avoid using it for scenes with lots of busy, dim details. The red flags, green trees and yellow helmet on the third image are other examples of the high saturation. What it is happens to be a high resolution film that provides sharp results and makes for an amazing fine art film. The film shows the most contrast and saturation near the shadows while slightly decreasing those qualities as more light gets added to the mix.

But, how am I supposed to capture memories of my family and friends if their skin always looks like they’ve just finished applying their fourth layer of clown makeup? This rings true on the street, and when combined with warm tones and metering for the highlights in a Chiaroscuro fashion, it gives me a great "classic" look that I often look for in my street photography. But after a day or so my man and I decided on a last minute trip to Karpathos (a Greek island in the Aegean Sea) since the Dutch summer wasn’t really taking off properly. This color negative film (C-41 process) was available in 25, 100, 400, and 1000 ISO, and was marketed as a semi-professional, fine-grain, ultra-saturated color film suitable for product photography, landscapes, and studio work. Since 1976, we have developed literally millions of rolls of film with experienced lab professionals and film enthusiasts.

However, the print enlargements varied, and so did the negatives which the enlargements were made from. Learn more about film photography, use new tools to do it better, and support this blog in the meantime. Kodak Ektar 100 36 Exp Colour Print Film is great for commercial photographers and amateurs alike, for nature, travel, fashion and product photography where the colour is really important. You’ll save time, get consistent results, and you’ll get to figure out if you want to continue with film photography before investing in film development equipment. You may need something that can read high-density negatives and pass that data to you in 16-bit per channel — I use PrimeFilm XAs — though I’ve gotten great results with Ektar being scanned on flatbed scanners as well. But if you do want those colours, sharpness, and world’s finest grain for everything else, and do your thing somewhere with ISO 100 friendly light levels, Ektar is more than worth a shot. Then I used the internal light meter of the Nikon F3 to meter and expose for the tulip field which was mostly in the shadows of the image. Rich tones make any scene come to life - from landscapes or travel to street photography and portraiture.
