Greg has been a gaming enthusiast his entire life, growing up in our hobby mainly on the war game side. There's quite a lot to remember to do while playing though, we struggle to remember to maintain fires and replace victims.

We found it a challenge to get the fires under control while simultaneously trying to rescue the victims. With two players, our game experience never lasts longer than 45 minutes and it’s different every time. Wrapping up this example, on Red’s “Advance Fire” phase he rolls Red:6/Black:4 and attempts to place a Smoke marker there. Yellow’s plan is to dash into the kitchen, rescue the victim there, then dash back out the same way she came in. It gives serious context to their in-game choices, making the game easy to not just learn the rules to play, but to understand what is going on.

Fire Captain – Can “delegate” 2 AP each turn to another firefighter, essentially commanding that firefighter to move or Open/Close Doors during the Captain’s turn. His theory was that the time he’d save on the way back (through the chopped walls) while saddled with having to carry a victim would more than make up for the time spent chopping. Yellow rolls the red and black dice and the result is Red:6/Black:5, which places the target space just outside the bedroom door behind which Green is standing with victim slung over his shoulder!

It's certainly more addictive and more streamlined but the y're both as exciting and realistic with hotshots having a much better design and longer gameplay and probably more re-playability due to it not being as simple as Flashpoint.Flashpoint: South China Sea is a two-player strategy game that simulates the complex geopolitical contest currently taking place between the United States and China in a disputed region of the South China Sea. For a game where luck plays a big part it’s amazing how often we have a close game with highs and lows when we think we’re going to lose and then manage to squeak a victory.
