About this deal

Sometimes Watson is infuriatingly dim and Holmes so brilliant, no wonder he has to keep going off to prison/hiding etc otherwise the mystery would be solved in ten pages - then again, Watson is incredibly courageous and I love his pondorous, reassuringly correct and deliberate style.

Nicely captures the storytelling tone of Holmes' inventor in a galloping adventure that boasts enough twists, ominous turns and urgent nocturnal escapades to make modern moviemakers salivate . The other is that the resolution to the story here is exceptionally lurid, and thus out of character with any of the original stories. The house of silk” is very true to the original stories of Sherlock Holmes but makes the characters, especially Holmes, more human. I hope, if you read it, you'll enjoy all the clues, the red herrings, the bizarre range of suspects and the occasionally violent twists.Moriarty ("'I am a mathematician, Dr Watson … I am also what you would doubtless term a criminal'"). I]t has been good to find myself back at Holmes’s side, […], always one step behind him (in every sense) and yet enjoying the rare privilege of observing, at close quarters, that unique mind. It is good to have such a distinguished narrator as Derek Jacobi, a pleasure to hear and who even managed to make Holmes a fraction more likeable. How Holmes ‘kept some back’ when all his personal possessions had been removed and he apparently hadn’t kept the bowl of soup was not explained. House of Silk offers a comprehensive collection of designer pajamas and lingerie to suit every style and occasion.

Holmes tells Watson Ross' silence indicates he had a plan of his own, and is bothered by his fear on Holmes' arrival. He has never bothered before to think about the lives of his ‘Irregulars’ when they are not working for him; now, he’s forced to and broods on the subject of London’s destitute children. Wiggins and the Baker Street irregulars make a welcome appearance, as do rat-faced Inspector Lestrade and Mycroft ("He is still alive, by the way. The only reason I didn't give the story 5 stars is because I would very much like to see a 21st century take on Sherlock.Like, I suspect, many people of my generation, the abiding image I have of the man – and therefore the benchmark against which I compare all other Holmeses – is Jeremy Brett’s portrayal in the long-running ITV series. Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are enjoying tea by the fire when an agitated gentleman arrives unannounced at 221b Baker Street. The action and resolution is much more contemporary, with shootouts and a raid on the brothel; only the first story is concluded with a classic reveal.
