About this deal

The unit is a Macdee AFV40100 flush valve - I can't see any markings on the inlet side, so I don't know who the manufacturer of that is - I assume the same. I will post an image of the top of the valve in case anyone knows if this is not a simple twist-off fitting. The reason it is not refilling is that, possibly, the inlet valve is one of the new generation of eco-friendly valves that is designed not to open until the water drops to a certain level.

When I got the valve off I looked at the seal itself which seemed to be very clean and pliable but it was covered in bubbles which I thought was a bit odd. Phone MT AGENCIES in finglas and ask them for your nearest agent for the Aquasave bottom entry inlet valve low pressure.

My unit was difficult to get out of the cistern, but when i gave it a really hard twist ,which was maybe a bit more than a 1/4 turn it popped out easier, its easy peasy to get it back into its cradle that stays in the cistern. When I leave in the morning the cistern is at the max fill (6L) marker, however when I get home it's sat at the minimum marker (4. Although on my flush the smaller level indicator on the side of the unit was the trouble as it was sticking and preventing the plunger from going down far enough, you can ensure it is operating ok by making sure the that the bottom of the plunger is down a good 1 ins from the unit casing, if not it means the plunger is still sticking and the water will still run thru it into the toilet pan,so just make sure its 1 ins . Lead times are shown on the product and trolley pages and are always advertised in working days (Monday to Friday). The plunger on my flush has gone "tits up" and i have taken it apart to find that the wire has detatched inside the cistern, now, i can't see how to retatch the wire!

Look out for water saving features, quiet operation, WRAS approved, and ones that are suitable for high and/or low pressure systems, as well as the option of brass or plastic shanks. When you say the big white bit is that the top of the tube closest to me that the blue tube goes in to?the little leaver will probably be stuck in the down position, if so poke in to lift it back up, this will let the valve reset and the systen should fill up. The cable-controlled flush valve can be easily fitted either to the top or the front of the cistern and is suitable for cisterns from 300 mm to 420 mm. You can save on the squirting a bit by opening the little plastic box (one small Philips screw and a bit of levering) and getting at the cable directly, but before you open it look carefully at how much of the cable outer is showing. I simply unclipped the little plastic box from the underside of the flush button, and squirted a generous glug of WD40 into the box through the hole that the flush plunger pokes into. This is a direct replacement for the old 208 valve and the original AFV40100/AFV40200 flush valves fitted in the macdee concealed cistern and will fit straight on the existing cradle without having to dismantle the cistern.

Check the seal at the bottom of the valve sometimes cleaning them of scale can stop them passing water into the bowl. Two days ago the cistern stopped filling completely and no amount of button-jiggling (bar one or two occasions) seems to bring it back. The internal overflow prevents any excess water from spilling over and causing flooding, and it has an adjustable range of 190 mm to 330 mm. It wasn't clear to me if I could simply remove the top half of the old cistern valve, and replace it with this new one so I took the plunge (pun intended).

I've enclosed shots of the cistern and the "plunger" part attached to the lid via the blue tube and was wondering if you kind folks wouldn't mind taking a stab at what the problem might be and how to solve it. just been fiddling around with the cistern again and it seems to have filled up - I also can't see any sign of water running into the bowl! The top section of the valve is compatible with the now discontinued AFV40100 and AFV40200 models and simply fits into the existing cradles without removing the cistern.
