About this deal

She hasn’t turned Abuela’s bedroom into a guest room yet, or moved her worn garden clogs from the patio. I also may be biased because I had a big falling out with a Lila (no offense to all Lilas out there) but I just didn't like her that much. There is no spice, which I find refreshing because I dont want to read chapters of that in a short book.

I can’t thank you enough, this book, I just loved everything about it 🥺 Laura Taylor Namey is, with every book, becoming one of my favorite authors ever! Orion, who is every bit charming as any other YA hero (a certified cinnamon roll, should I say Chelsea bun), is a contrast to Lila’s headstrong character. But, with so much love for it from my friends, and online in general, I thought it would be worth it to give it a shot! I can see why Owl and Crow guests rave about the afternoon tea served in the parlor, but there’s too much sugar in this scone. It also lost the magic for me around the middle of the book, where it felt like there was really nothing to keep me interesting. Worried about Lila's mental health, her parents make a new plan for her: spend three months with family friends in Winchester, England, to relax and reset. Orion is quite knowledgeable about tea and a very cute moment was him trying to figure out Lila’s perfect tea flavor. Worried about Lila’s mental health, her parents make a new plan for her: Spend three months with family friends in Winchester, England, to relax and reset.

Soon a new future is beginning to form in Lila's mind—one that would mean leaving everything she ever planned behind. Lila Reyes doesn’t want to be in England—in fact, she’d rather be where she feels most at home, in her Abuela’s kitchen in Miami, carrying on her legacy. She finds that her clothes are not weather appropriate, the inn’s baker is not willing to let her incorporate some of her recipes, and she feels like she’s making mistake after mistake. Waiting in this reception room with its potted plants and periwinkle wallpaper, I watch as family members are reunited by long-awaited visits, and once again separated by departures that come too soon. A Cuban Girl’s Guide To Tea and Tomorrow has a lovely place for romance and… damn if it wasn’t perfectly paced.

Because of her, Pilar and I would never dare board a plane without toting a spare pair of underwear and a change of clothes. The plan was 1) take over her abuela’s role as head baker at their panadería, 2) move in with her best friend after graduation, and 3) live happily ever after with her boyfriend.
