The nature reserves we manage are precious wildlife havens, alive with plants, birds, mammals and insects. The route is well sign-posted with information panels giving visitors more information about the New Forest. Additionally, two maps have been included in the preface, showing the general location and main sites referenced. There is an Education Centre that caters for school, youth, scouting and adult special interest or community groups throughout the year and a comprehensive programme of guided walks and family events.

It continues to explore other, more recent developments in Hampshire’s birding scene and sets the background for the bulk of the book, which consists of accounts for 186 species, plus seven distinctive subspecies, all meeting the rarity conditions and approaching half of the county list of 389 species.

Public information for Sensitive Species is restricted due to potential harmful impact to these birds. A revised edition of the systematic list of the birds of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight originally published in 1963.

NOTE: There are two Beacon Hills in Hampshire, this is the one near Warnford, not the one near Burghclere). These adverts enable local businesses to get in front of their target audience – the local community.
