These writings are featured in a commemorative book alongside rare photography and housed in beautiful packaging that also features the lyrics to timeless hits such as This Year’s Love, Babylon, and Sail Away . His fourth studio album failed to chart when first released in 1998, but became an enormous success when re-released on ATO Records in 2000. Well I guess I got lucky with my copy… or perhaps this is a repress… in any case, there are some very minor crackles between some tracks (not many) but otherwise warm, nice bass, good instrument separation and nice soundstage with no distortion anywhere. I gave them both a good cleaning and they still sound very scratchy and static, especially during the quiet parts and in between songs.

David Grays merch control needs a serious review :( this record, I purchased at the Sydney concert, is so distorted, the sound is pitched super high and it sounds so bad. This is a special reminder of a truly amazing experience and will be the centerpiece of our extensive DG collection. Given the decent songwriting showcased here, you suspect it couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke. These tracks are offered as a 4LP set, which the album on two white vinyl records and the associated tracks on two black vinyl LPs. This expanded, deluxe release features the iconic album newly mastered on 2 pieces of white vinyl plus previously unreleased and rare White Ladder-era B-sides and demos on 2 pieces of black vinyl. I can't compare it to the 1LP white version (the bad reviews put me off), but like others have said, this is the best I've heard this album. I'm not even remotely an audiophile and can tolerate almost any mastering if I like the music - this is the first LP I'm had to take it off after 2 songs because it was grating.

No sibilance / hiss on the vocals or cymbals, voice was clean, bass was punchy, great separation, etc. The anniversary reissue offers the album remastered, alongside a series of previously unreleased and rare White Ladder-era B-sides and demos (including ‘Over My Head’ which you can preview, above).This could, and should have been done beautifully (as George Michael Older was), but sadly It seems to have been mastered in a public toilet using a phone as monitor speakers and then pressed using recycled milk bottle plastic! Twenty years later he performed the album in its entirety at the Moody Theater as part of Austin City Limits live.
