I don’t know why one would need that in books or even on TV (but I assume it appeals to many else these shows wouldn’t work), but based on this book alone, it would have worked as well without that sort of humour since it does have a story to tell and things to say. The story goes along for a bit as you expect it to, but then also takes a few unexpected turns as well. N.B: possibly the author's highlight due to the BBC film, two stage productions and a children's themed ride!
