About this deal

The book does a great job developing their long-term friendship and showing how they have come to understand each other and despise growing up in the circumstances they did. Head over to Resources for discussion guides, background information about influences on Fireborne, the writing process, and a map! The world isn't black and white, and far too often people (myself included) try to filter the world into that dichotomy.

Having said that, the romance was still there; the pining, the longing, the almost impossibility of it all that at the same time gave off this meant to be vibe.

The mirroring of our characters, going through similar arcs but making different decisions based on privilege and status. Annie's sobs are drilling into me, that particular sound that I'm primed, from so many years ago, to respond to.

I found myself agreeing with the proposed actions of one character, and then the very next chapter I would change my mind and agree with a different character. the only downside about her was that she guessed at lee’s actual identity a little too early in my opinion, and it took away some of the surprise that i was hoping for. But he’s a swing character, crafted to do the opposite of what you expect when the author needs something doing that doesn’t make sense. despite it’s flaws, i was glued to it thanks to the fast moving plot, complex characters, and political intrigue. Thanks to BookishFirst and the publisher for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review. Fabulous reading, magnetic scenes, and the turmoil of being a young adult expected to become steely warriors. This reads like an amalgamation of several dragon books ( A Game of Thrones and Harry Potter among others), but without those books’ distinct voices and characters. Then a man named Atreus came along and did a rebellion to institute a more equitable system, whereby everyone would get placed in a social stratum based on the results of a standardized test.

Griff is a dragonrider, but his dragon wears a muzzle, and he serves at the whim of dragonlords who might at any moment kill his family. A pair of kids who survived to grow up in an orphanage will now battle it out in the new regime to become the leader of the guardians. And even sometimes when the things were happening on-page, I felt like they were not really happening more like we were told and it was described to us what was going on. I highly recommend this book to all ages, but if you are an older reader who still enjoys YA, go pick this up! By the time 35% of Fireborne rolled around I was firmly rooting for Annie and Lee to overcome the uncomfortableness between them to be together.Who’s to say that the new regime won’t become like the old, when those in power forget their promises? Annie and Lee's new world involves book burnings, tightly spun propaganda, and a clear overclass that still has privilege over the expendable lowest class.

a lot of nuance was added to this and as a reader, it ultimately made me question: if the New Regime started following the footsteps of the Old one, then are they really any better than their oppressors? The addition of the new location and characters after book 1 really elevates the series and raises the stakes, making everything more complex and interesting.
