And as far as robot vacuums app go, I was actually quite pleased with the UI of this one. I also had the unfortunate opportunity to mop up some dried blood during testing (don’t ask). This was a tough job but the X1 Omni made a commendable effort on the first pass, and had most of it cleaned by the end of the second. When you’re not using the mopping tool or air freshener, there’s nowhere to store them, so you’ll have to make space for them. Nevertheless, the overall design of the Deebot T9+ is simple and unobtrusive, so you won’t mind leaving it out all the time. In our testing, the bot easily mopped up spilled red wine, and we were pleased to see that it was actually absorbed into the mopping pads, not sloshed around the tiles. We were also quite impressed by the X1 Turbo’s performance with more dried-in stains, like the kind you might find on your kitchen or dining room floor.

Ecovacs says the Deebot U2 has a run time of up to 110 minutes, and during our testing, we found the battery life to be a little lower; around 90 minutes with standard suction power. Using Max power, we got about 65 minutes of juice from the robovac, and around 45 minutes of run time on its most powerful suction setting. That’s quite an impressive battery life, especially when you consider a small open-plan apartment, or one with about two or three rooms, could get a thorough cleaning with the Max+ setting on a single run.This is just brilliant. Most mopping robots I’ve seen require you to manually add no-mop zones. You can still do that here but you can also safely leave the robot to do its own thing and it won’t soak rugs or doormats. As mentioned above, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Plus is a little larger than some robot vacuums, in part because of its 8.1oz / 240ml water reservoir, but not substantially so. It’s 3.66 inches / 9.3cm tall and has a diameter of 13.9 inches / 35.3cm. This does mean it’s not quite as nimble as some when nipping underneath tables and chairs, and carrying it upstairs could be a chore – it weighs 7.9lb / 3.6kg.

It does all these tasks well, but there are other products out there which offer a similar feature set at a lower price. For example, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni has comparable performance and was released at a similar price point in 2022, but you can find it on sale fairly frequently. Flip the robot vac over and you’ll get a better idea of how this device works. There are two side brushes towards the front to sweep debris towards the main brush located in the middle. That main brush can get quite tangled with hair and fibers, but thankfully the brush is easy to remove and simple to clean.

Strong suction for less than half the price of premium rivals

Perhaps most interesting is the mop. The mops on most robot vacuums feel like afterthoughts, with a simple pad that’s dampened from a reservoir in the robot, then dragged along behind to give the floor a cursory wipe. To wake up the voice assistant, just say, "OK Yiko," and wait for it to reply, "I'm here." Yiko supports a wide range of voice commands, including "start cleaning," "make a new map," "mop the kitchen," and, "go mop the floor around the living room sofa." You can even say "come clean here" if you're in the same room as the robot, and it navigates to your position. Similarly, when you tell it, "don't vacuum here," the vacuum moves to a different spot. Yiko is enabled by default; to disable it, just navigate to More Settings in the Ecovacs app, select Yiko Voice Assistant, and toggle it off.

On top there’s a single button which starts the cleaning process. An integrated LED light indicates status – it’s white when cleaning, blinks slowly while charging, or turns red if there's trouble. Above the button is a tiny Wi-Fi status light that glows when connected.All is forgiven when it comes to mopping, however. This robot is absolutely the best robot mop we’ve reviewed to date, the rotary motion of the X1 Omni’s two spinning cloths adding a level of cleaning power that is unsurpassed. Overall though, the X1 Turbo’s object avoidance was impressive. While it never bumped into interior walls, it didn’t get quite close enough to vacuum the edges of a room (i.e. along the skirting boards), meaning dust could collect over time along edges and corners. The bot mostly succeeds at cleaning underneath furniture provided there’s enough clearance.
