About this deal

Fact 1: Dumbledore was able to defeat Grindelwald in a duel even though Grindelwald had the elder wand in possession. Elder wands are rarely owned for long and it takes a remarkable person to keep one for any length of time. I think it shows how powerful Dumbledore was that he was able to keep the Elder Wand for decades and that he seemed to have bonded with it well. Wand Core Voldemort broke into Dumbledore's grave and robbed it of the wand, which had been buried with its former master. However, unbeknownst to Voldemort, the former owner of the Elder Wand, Albus Dumbledore, had been disarmed by young Draco Malfoy. He believed that Severus Snape was the true owner of the wand after he realised the wand was not living up to its full potential, as Voldemort thought that Snape had been the one to kill Dumbledore, not taking into account the fact that Draco had disarmed Dumbledore before Snape killed him. As a result, Voldemort got his pet snake and Horcrux Nagini, to murder Snape. [5] He believed he was now the Elder Wand's true master, but in the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry Potter, his young adversary, revealed to Voldemort that the wand had not belonged to Snape, but to Draco, and, after defeating Draco himself, Harry Potter. [4] Harry Potter's possession [ ] After his falling out with Dumbledore, Grindelwald delved into his research of the Deathly Hallows and uncovered the location of the Elder Wand. Rumours had been circulating that the renowned wandmaker Gregorovitch had the wand and was trying to duplicate its properties. Grindelwald broke into the wandmaker's workshop, and succeeded in claiming ownership of the fabled wand by waiting until Gregorovitch came and then casting a stunning spell at him, making himself the rightful owner. The Elder Wand is among many wands available to buy at the Harry Potter-themed attractions in Universal parks, the 'Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour' in London, and Harry Potter shops around in the United Kingdom and New York, where it's known as "Professor Dumbledore's wand".

We know from this answer that Dumbledore was probably born in late July or August. Matching them to the calendar (and assuming she would have used the same system) the most likely candidates are Holly and Oak. This was inserted with CGI and re-shoots to replace the original wand used during the making of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald that J. K. Rowling noted looked too much like the Elder Wand. [4] However, in the scene where Dumbledore looks in the Mirror of Erised and sees his younger self with a younger Grindelwald creating their blood pact, he still uses his original wand to slice his hand. In the film adaptation for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 and 2, it seems that the Elder Wand has a much darker colour; this may be a change the film makers employed to make the wand fit better with Voldemort's "dark and evil" personality.Fact 3: Quoting from Deathly Hallows - Dumbledore's take on how Harry's wand behaved against Voldemort's wand: When Albus Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945, mastery of the Elder Wand passed to him. [15] Under his ownership, the wand was largely used for good, unlike many of its former masters. Dumbledore performed great magic with this wand, furthering his reputation as the world's most powerful wizard. Among that magic was the ability to produce Gubraithian Fire, a flame which has been enchanted to burn forever without dying. It is quite an advanced piece of magic, as few wizards were capable of it. Dumbledore provided Rubeus Hagrid with a branch of this fire as a diplomatic gift for the giants. Dumbledore's wand is made from the wood of an elder tree, which is why it is known as the Elder Wand. Despite its legendary reputation and immense ability, the Elder Wand was an unassuming object. Appearing at face value to be a wand like any other, it had a smooth, unadorned shaft and a handle formed from two conjoined spheres. When Tom bought his wand, DD had not defeated GG yet, so he still had his first wand. If that was Harry's phoenix feathered wand, it would make sense because of the connection with Fawkes. It would fit DD's character to be curious about what would happen if he gave one other feather to Ollivander just to see what Witch or Wizard that wand would choose. Maybe that's why he kept such a close eye on Tom Riddle (besides the cruel behaviour he had displayed in the orphanage).

Aside from being the most powerful wand ever created, the Elder Wand is also unique in how it looks. It has what looks like elderberry clusters spaced along the wand, which makes sense because elder trees grow elderberries. At the end of the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the Elder Wand is seen lying on the headmaster's desk, instead of being buried in the White Tomb. This scene must take place before Dumbledore's burial (which isn't seen on film), given that in the next film adaptation, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, the wand is buried with its former master. But what caused the Elder Wand to turn from Grindelwald to Dumbledore? That’s something we’d all like to know.

Personalise your wand with bespoke engraving including your name, special dates, or even famous quotes from the beloved Harry Potter series, the perfect way to add a special touch to your wand, making it feel truly unique and personal. It did have one redeeming quality like all other wands, however: it refused to harm or kill its true master when in the hand of someone else. It also couldn't harm those under sacrificial protection. At some point, Albus was given this wand and took it to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and he used it during his time there. He used this wand and achieved a stunning display of magic in the subjects of Transfiguration and Charms as assessed by NEWTs. [3] He used it all the way through his Hogwarts years and during his teaching years as a Professor at the school, up till 1945 when he won the Elder Wand in the legendary duel between him and Grindelwald. I am curious about people's opinion and hence must speculate here based on facts we know from the canon: Fact 2: Dumbledore and Grindelwald had dueled each other before - from Aberforth's account of events leading upto Ariana's death - although it is unclear to all 3 wizards how the duel actually played out and who won.
