Before we go into the review, I want to let you know that there are 3 different sizes of the Bluefin Cruise Carbon. Although here I’m talking mostly about the 10’8, the features are the same for all three, and the only difference is the length which, of course, changes the way you perceive and use the board. Throughout this text, you will also see pictures of all three, so you have a better understanding of what you’re getting. The Bluefin Cruise Carbon boards are again much stiffer than the standard models. Due to the carbon rails and the two air chambers, the boards are noticeably harder and more resilient than the normal, somewhat cheaper versions. This construction method is clearly noticeable in the riding behavior. This of course changes if you want to get into SUP surfing, then you’ll want a board that is small and very manoeuvrable, which means it won’t glide at all well.
I’m 85kg and 6’2ish and found the 10’8 easy to use. The 10’8, which is the length of the board, is the classic beginner size because it’s stable enough for most beginners, but manoeuvrable so you can practice turning with ease. This kit consists of a seat and a kayak paddle end. The seat is comfortable and padded. After you’ve adjusted the straps once to their proper lengths, you can literally attach the seat to the D-rings in a matter of seconds. Pull out the top end of the paddle and replace it with the second blade and you’re good to go. Extremely elongated shaped boards like the Bluefin Sprint, on the other hand, are uncompromisingly designed for high speeds. Due to the elongated shape, these are very difficult to ride for beginners. Here you need a good feeling for keeping your balance. And maneuverability also suffers from the design of the racing boards. What we regret a bit is that no kayak seat and no second paddle blade is part of the set anymore, but in return the included components are still of high quality and performance.
Should You Buy the Bluefin Cruise Carbon?
Exo Surface Laminate PVC is the layering of materials that forms the board. Most cheaper boards only have one layer, which makes them lightweight and easy to fold away, but are always compromised on robustness and longevity. The reason why we say Bluefin boards are constructed well is that they are built from layers of PVC, instead of just one.
