About this deal

Consider coming into a store and doing a video gait analysis. Gait analysis monitors your body’s movement and your feet (sports biomechanics) whilst running. It’s commonly used to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify movement related problems for people with injuries who are seeking new running shoes. The Brooks Ghost is probably the blandest running shoe in existence. If the Ghost was a pizza, it would be a Margherita.

The platform is also nice and wide giving it a very stable ride. At 113.8mm wide in the forefoot and 94.2mm in the heel it’s above average (112.7mm and 89.3mm) giving it a robust feel that’s not wobbly or indecisive on a variety of terrain. I wouldn’t think twice about taking this on mild trails even, it’s that stable. I did see Brooks makes this in one fun colorway, a killer neon green, good for you brooks to step out and try something new. Night runners There’s absolutely no need for break-in in the Ghost 14, Brooks made this shoe ready to take out of the box and do a 5K on day one if needed. Ghost 14 could be lighter The Ghost 14 GTX Running Shoes from Brooks combine long-distance comfort with excellent weather protection from GORE-TEX, making them a good choice for putting in the training miles in all weather conditions. With a midsole made from DNA LOFT and a Segmented Crash Pad design, the ride is plush and well-cushioned, giving smooth, natural feeling transitions and great comfort.

Brooks Ghost 14 First Impressions

It has a lot of padding and cushion, so it’s not lightweight. At 10.1 ounces (287g) it tips over a crucial landmark of being above 10 ounces. It has generous foam padding in the tongue, heel tab and collar which pillow your feet. The Ghost really is hands down the most comfortable of all the daily trainers. There’s a popular saying that goes something like, the more things change, the more they stay the same. There is now more outsole rubber on the medial side of the midsole to give the Ghost 14 more medial support since the medial side of the midsole has been changed to a softer DNA Loft. The Ghost 14 does ride ever so slightly softer than the Ghost 13 but it’s negligible. If the Ghost 13 is a 6/10 in terms of softness, the Ghost 14 is a 6.25.

I enjoyed it most on steady-paced runs, slightly faster than easy pace, between 4.50 and 5.30 minutes per kilometre. The last gripe on the ride is the 12.4mm drop. As a generalist shoe built for the masses, this is just too much drop. It needs to be 6-8 to work well for the majority of runners I think. It feels steep and I just hate steep drop shoes unless they have a specific reason for being so. Ready to go straight from the box

One of the forefoot grooves is now partially filled with rubber. This makes the forefoot less flexible and feel more snappy during transitions. The thinner mesh also makes the forefoot feel more spacious but it fits true to size. It’s available in 4 different men’s widths and 3 women’s widths if you need them. As a training shoe, it’s likely to be used on night runs or in low-light situations so I wish the designers had considered that more. There are two different types of rubber used on the Ghost 14’s outsole: soft rubber on the forefoot and harder, more durable carbon rubber on the heel section. As a daily trainer weight is not usually a key issue to stress about, but this shoe would be more interesting at 8.5-9 ounces. Built heavy-duty
