So even if you use a higher-rated charger, the wattage is automatically optimized to the maximum charging power the battery can handle. How long does it take to fully charge a DJI Mini 2 battery? Under the video heading, the Mini 2 has a very distinct advantage if 4K is of use to you. It is worth stopping to think whether it is; if you’re producing for YouTube you’d be surprised how few viewers switch up to 4K, for example, and plenty of screens are small enough that it’s hard to justify the server load. When the battery becomes hot during use, do not charge it immediately after. Handling the battery when it’s hot can cause burns, so give it 10 or more minutes to cool down, then charge it. In the morning, connect your battery again and try turning it ON again and see if it works. Refresh the firmware

Try not to fly your drone at full throttle at all times. Full throttle drains a lot of current from your battery in a short time. This massive discharge reduces the battery life. DJI is working on a firmware update for the DJI Mini 2 and its battery system to initiate auto-discharge when batteries are in the drone or charging hub and have not been used recently. When placed in the drone or charging hub, the batteries use a minute amount of charge to maintain vital functions and does not initiate auto-discharge. DJI recommends that batteries are removed from the drone and/or charging hub when batteries need to be stored for a long time even after the firmware update. DJI will update our community when firmware will be available when that information becomes available.’ DJI LiPo batteries are quite resistant to physical deformation but a drone crash can impact the batteries severely. They can de-shape, deform or even the internal circuitry gets damaged. DJI’s warranties only protect users against craftsmanship errors, not user errors like charging with a third-party battery. If your drone incurs damage, you’d have to pay for the replacement yourself. The DJI Mini 2 SE uses the Mini 2 Intelligent Flight Battery. As the name suggests, DJI created this battery for the original Mini 2, released in late 2020.

However, it is not a good idea to fly your drone in extremely low temperatures. Even if your drone takes off, it can crash midway due to low discharge from the battery. The battery is damaged You can always leave the battery and try to charge it again later, but if you get the same error the next time, that’s a clear sign something is wrong. The battery life also depends on the temperature it is used at. Flying in extreme hot or freezing cold weather can reduce the life of your LiPo battery significantly.

Fortunately, since the Mini 2 SE Intelligent Flight Battery is so, well, intelligent, you can tell what’s wrong with it judging by which of the four LED lights blink and their pattern. DJI states that using the older battery of the Mini in your Mini 2 will increase its weight to over 250 grams and decrease the power. In other words, you’ll have to get your Mini 2 registered (assuming you’re in the US) and lose out on a bit of performance. The lights should gradually illuminate to represent your charging progress, but that may not be the case in some instances. It is called a “two-way” charging hub because it can also charge other USB-powered devices with your drone batteries. It has a standard USB outlet port through which you can charge your phone or any other device. Each LED indicates a 25% increment in charge level. So, if 3 LEDs light up solid, that means the battery has a 75% charge.Just like any other smartphone or laptop battery, your MM2 battery also degrades a little with each charge-discharge cycle. You should always use standard DJI equipment for charging the Intelligent Flight Battery, including the provided charging cable and charger. Undetected blinking pattern We’ve talked about the potential (though unlikely) consequences of overcharging your drone battery. But how are you supposed to know when to cut the power? If you’re shooting for YouTube, 2.7K is probably higher resolution than most of your users are using (very few people switch to 4K and the company seem in no hurry to make it an automatic increase to their server load). In fact 1080P – Full High Def (FHD) – is often good enough, and on both of these drones that comes with the advantage of being able to capture 60fps to get smooth action.

Another important factor is the discharge rate, i-e how hard you usually push your drone to extreme speeds and maneuvers where it draws the maximum possible current from the batteries. You can then connect the charging hub itself to a power source through a USB charging cable and an 18W adapter. One important phrase I mentioned in the previous section was “careful use”. Allow me to touch on what that means, as it’s integral for a long-lasting battery. You can technically leave your DJI Mini 2 charging overnight as the battery comes with overcharge protection and temperature detection. However, it’s highly recommended not to leave it unsupervised as those features can potentially fail and lead to a dangerous situation. Fortunately, you don’t have to do anything special as the Intelligent Flight Battery takes care of this issue for you. A good gimbal is, more than anything, what sets a drone like this apart from the significantly cheaper toys on our Best Drones for Kids list. A low-resolution camera might still get a good result in the right hands, but the ‘hands’ in question here are fast moving and vibrating motors and a significant step toward overcoming the effect they have on the lens is achieved using a motorized gimbal.
