While ballistics are not typically part of most iron-distance events, many of the other aspects of the list above are a normal part of endurance sports training and racing. Which again, is probably why Jaybird units are known to last a while.
The downsides? There’s always one, right? This time, it’s that there’s no active noise cancellation. Still, the secure fit of the buds offers a decent level of sound isolation, so it’s not all bad. A single use of the earbuds will get you 8 hours of play time without ANC on, and 6 hours with ANC.
What’s the difference between the Jaybird Vista and Jaybird Vista 2?
Vista 2 wireless earbuds are ultra-lightweight and the shape of the earbuds offer a really secure in-ear fit when you use the correct silicone tip and wing to fit your ear perfectly. You’ll probably never worry about an earbud dropping out while running ever again. As a final perk, build quality is excellent. Like all Jaybird’s, the Vista have an IPX7 water/sweat resistance rating. This means they’ll easily survive the wear and tear expected of a gym set. The last thing you want when running or adventuring in the mountains is to be worrying about the durability of a pair of expensive, and small earbuds, but this is where Jaybird really stands out from the crowd. They sound great and we like that you can customize your experience with an EQ built into the app, which allows you to adjust the sound of the Jaybird Vista 2 as much as you please. Another small design addition worth highlighting is the raised surface around the L and R to help identify the buds—it’s a nice touch for visually impaired users in particular.
As is usually the case, I’ve had ZERO dropouts on any of my workouts with the Garmin FR945 LTE. This is pretty similar to most recent Garmin watches (compared to the first few models of watches where they added music connectivity). These days, most headphone companies that focus on sports, and most watch companies that do music, have figured out how to work together happily. And in this case, it was indeed happily. It essentially converts electrical energy into acoustic energy, also known as a transducer. This serves the core function of headphones, and it produces the sound you hear tadaa! In my opinion, Vista 2 has the best audio quality of all Jaybird wireless headphones to date, including the original Vista, which was already impressive but ANC gives the Vista 2 the edge.
Freddie Mercury’s voice goes down through an easily-handled and meaty bass right up to a highly likeable treble. The high hat plays around our right ear beautifully as Brian May’s vocal comes in. By the way, I have another pair of earbuds (Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless) and they work fine with the Garmin FR945.
We didn’t get the opportunity to battle particularly windy conditions as we were hit with a mini heatwave during our tests, but any help to keep the wind at bay without compromising the bud design can only be a good thing in our book.For starters, they have a wealth of wing tip options. This makes it easy to get a solid seal and during testing they offered one of the most stable seals and fits I’ve ever had on a set of true wireless earbuds. From a workout performance point of view, the Vista 2 added ANC and SurroundSound modes, which enable you to modify the sound to match your surrounding better. When you're running, you can turn on SurroundSound to hear oncoming traffic better; if you're in the gym, ANC will help you keep unwanted groans out of your ears so you can focus on lifting heavy.
Touch Response Functions: Control music, ANC control (on, off, SurroundSense mode), Receive / end calls, Volume up and down They also come with military-grade durability credentials, with a MIL-STD-810G rating also deeming them drop proof, crush proof and dust proof. All Garmin watches with music support work the same way in this manner, and this then lets me listen to music without a phone nearby. So in my case, that was primarily Spotify: Vista 2 is designed to survive, real-world tested, and guaranteed to perform. Jaybird also says they are crushproof which means you could accidentally stand on an earbud, and it should be able to handle it – I haven’t tested this myself however.
Are high-tech headphones better with low-tech sound isolation?
The Vistas time as well as any runner’s pacer app. There’s a fair dollop of detail on offer – we easily hear Freddie utter “all right” during May’s instrumental electric guitar section. As Another One Bites the Dust begins, there’s no shortage of excitement and clout through the initial driving bass guitar riff, or dynamic build through an impressive crescendo. The Vistas are punchy, perky performers. While you can get a sliver more detail and hi-fi sounding performance from the Melomania 1, that’s not to say the Vistas are poor as a result. A pair of sports headphones must ensure a perfect fit alongside an energetic and punchy sound to even approach worthiness. And the Jaybird Vistas have absolutely achieved this. Finally, note that on the outside of the buds you’ll see a new fabric-looking section. That’s what Jaybird calls their ‘WindDefense’ fabric, which aims to act like a dead-cat on a microphone, and reduce wind noises before they get to the mics. Both earbuds have mics in them, as each side can be used independently in a singular mode, as some people prefer only using one bud at a time for awareness reasons. Active Noise Canceling (ANC) is new to Vista 2, and I’m so happy to see this feature finally arrive because having noise canceling earbuds really improves the sound quality and immerses you in your music.
