The Great Attractor is thought to be the center of the Laniakea Supercluster. However, observations of this region of the local universe are difficult because it lies past the direction of our galactic center, which obscures our view. Additional resources Though you will find that The nutritional label clearly states that these mini bars may contain peanuts. This is because these mini bars are made in facilities that also create food products that contain peanuts.

Intensity of high-energy gamma-ray emission observed by the Energetic Gamma -Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) instrument on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO). The image includes all photons with energies greater than 100 MeV. At these extreme energies, most of the celestial gamma-rays originate in collisions of cosmic rays with hydrogen nuclei in interstellar clouds. The bright, compact sources indicate high-energy phenomena associated with pulsars. So if you have a serious peanut allergy, you may want to consider staying away from Milky Way candy bars for your safety. The likelihood of you having a reaction is very small, but there is always the risk. Milky Way Minis Recent advances in the study of moving groups have had an impact on the investigation of the kinematic history of stars and on the absolute calibration of the distance scale of the Galaxy. Moving groups have proved particularly useful with respect to the latter because their commonality of motion enables astronomers to determine accurately (for the nearer examples) the distance of each individual member. Together with nearby parallax stars, moving-group parallaxes provide the basis for the galactic distance scale. Astronomers have found the Hyades moving cluster well suited for their purpose: it is close enough to permit the reliable application of the method, and it has enough members for deducing an accurate age. Our solar system sits in the disk, about 27,000 light-years from the galactic center, near the inner rim of the Orion Arm.

In April 1920, Harlow Shapley faced off with Heber Curtis at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., in a discussion called the Great Debate. Shapley maintained that spiral and all other nebulae were part of the Milky Way, just like globular clusters. But Curtis provided convincing evidence that they were independent star systems — “island universes,” as he called them, a term coined by the German philosopher Immanuel Kant. If you’re on a dark countryside hill some night, look up at the sky. Arcing overhead, a faint band of light may appear that looks like milk spilled across the sky. The ancient Romans called the band via lacteal, which means “milky road” or “milky way.” Unfortunately, Milky Way bars do contain several allergens that customers should be aware of. This includes common allergens, such as: There are so many crisps you could have a few from a larger bag of for your syns, but there are some that you can eat the whole bag, even if it is just a small bag! I don’t know about you but I can’t open a bag and just eat a few so I find it easier knowing I can eat the whole bag once I open it!

The shape of our galaxy

Over the past 70 years, a picture has emerged of a massive galaxy with four primary spiral arms. The Sun is located 27,000 light-years from the galactic center along the Orion Spur, a smaller arm located between the Perseus and Sagittarius arms. In recent years, astronomers have discovered our galaxy’s central bulge has a bar structure. And its disk of gas and stars is slightly warped and twisted, perhaps by gravitational interaction with nearby dwarf galaxies. Before we had telescopes, people could not see many of the stars very clearly. They blurred together in a white streak across the sky. A myth by the ancient Greeks said this white streak was a "river of milk". The ancient Romans called it the Via Galactica, or "road made of milk". This is how our Galaxy became known as the Milky Way.

Do you wonder how many syns you have? If you have forgotten what your consultant told you or perhaps you are following the plan at home and don’t know how many syns you should have then I have an article of all you need to know about that. They tend to be young objects; only a few are known to exceed 1 billion years in age. Most are younger than 200 million years, and some are 1 or 2 million years old. Ages of open clusters are determined by comparing their stellar membership with theoretical models of stellar evolution. Because all the stars in a cluster have very nearly the same age and chemical composition, the differences between the member stars are entirely the result of their different masses. As time progresses after the formation of a cluster, the massive stars, which evolve the fastest, gradually disappear from the cluster, becoming white dwarf stars or other underluminous stellar remnants. Theoretical models of clusters show how this effect changes the stellar content with time, and direct comparisons with real clusters give reliable ages for them. To make this comparison, astronomers use a diagram (the colour-magnitude diagram) that plots the temperatures of the stars against their luminosities. Colour-magnitude diagrams have been obtained for more than 1,000 open clusters, and ages are thus known for this large sample. Today, we know that we are looking along the plane of our spiral galaxy, consisting of at least 100 billion stars. But understanding the shape of the Milky Way proved elusive up until the 20th century. The problem is we can’t get a bird’s eye view of our galaxy because our solar system is buried within the galaxy. But with the invention of the telescope, photography, spectroscopy, and radio astronomy, we have uncovered the shape and size of our home galaxy — and our place among the billions of stars that make up our island universe. lt;p>Milky Way Universe is an out-of-this-world festive selection box, the perfect gift for any chocolate lover this Christmas. Open clusters have diameters of only 2 or 3 to about 20 light-years, with the majority being less than 5 light-years across. In structure they look very different from globular clusters, though they can be understood in terms of similar dynamical models. The most important structural difference is their small total mass and relative looseness, which result from their comparatively large core radii. These two features have disastrous consequences as far as their ultimate fate is concerned, because open clusters are not sufficiently gravitationally bound to be able to withstand the disruptive tidal effects in the Galaxy ( see star cluster: Open clusters). Judging from the sample of open clusters within 3,000 light-years of the Sun, only half of them can withstand such tidal forces for more than 200 million years, and a mere 2 percent have life expectancies as high as 1 billion years. The birth of radio astronomy provided this new tool and led to the discovery that the galaxy is filled not only with dust, but also with tremendous amounts of cold, neutral hydrogen gas. Most of the time, a hydrogen atom’s proton and electron spin in the same direction. But sometimes, electrons flip and spin in the other direction. For any given hydrogen atom, this only happens about once every 100 million years. When it does, energy is emitted with a wavelength of 21 centimeters. These waves pass right through the clouds of dust that hide visible light, which has a much shorter wavelength.

The Milky Way Galaxy is organized into spiral arms of giant stars that illuminate interstellar gas and dust. The sun is in a finger called the Orion Spur. (Image credit: Hubble Space Telescope) However, you will find a warning on the Milky Way label stating that it may contain peanuts or peanut ingredients. This is due to the fact that Milky Way bars are made in a facility that also makes peanut products. If you have a peanut allergy, you may be wondering if Milky Way minis contain peanuts that you will need to stay clear of. The good thing is that, like the normal Milky Way candy bars, Milky Way minis do not contain peanuts.
