About this deal

Set the ISO of your film by turning the ISO dial on the top of the camera to match your film’s ISO rating. Focus your camera Another thing I love is the great sound the holga 135 makes when you take a picture. It really sounds like the whole scene is captured by this small thing. The Holga 135 is perfect if you’re often en route.

It was interesting because at first someone said, ‘The pictures are not so good,’ but then after [Burnett took the prize] people said, ‘This camera is very special,’” says Lee. “It changed suddenly.” While I can see the obvious benefits of 120 film over 35mm in the image quality even the Holga gave me, I don’t have any real yearning to buy any medium format camera. Not yet. Although I remember saying that about all film cameras not too long ago. I shot two types of film in the Holga as I wanted to try both monochrome and colour. Shanghai GP3 100 took care of the first, and Lomography Colour Negative 100 the second. Without this unique plastic lens the Holga would undoubtedly lose her mojo. Simple as it may be this little plastic gem is responsible for radiating the Holga’s signature, otherworldly essence. With that fixed shutter speed, I’d recommend loading an ISO 400 film for more leeway with the light. With that viewfinder, I’d recommend thinking of it as a rough guide rather than an accurate representation of what you’ll get.TLR: these 3 magic letters are immediately very seducing for every Lomographer. Lubitel, Rolleiflex, Voigtländer, Yashica… all these camera brands have produced among the best TLR cameras ever, but they can be kind of expensive sometimes. They are cheap, imperfect, light, and simple to use. The imperfections are where the charm is with these plastic cameras. They free you to concentrate on interesting subjects. These cameras are inconspicuous, people don’t give a someone with a toy camera a second look on the street. I prefer 120 camera over the 35mm camera. I like a larger piece of film. Once I get into the Zone, it seems like I am more inspired to take pictures. Tips for getting a good exposure

That seems like a lot of negativity, but it’s important to be aware of how shooting your Holga can go wrong. You’re not going to get lost in a mountain of features and options like you might with other cameras. This is more about getting good shots by avoiding the pitfalls. Now you know how to load your Holga and what to watch out for when shooting it, what kind of results can you expect if things do indeed go as planned? The Diana Mini can be a bit more expensive if you want the flash included, so if you do want a flash, that is worth considering however I don't think it's completely necessary for either camera to have one as they both work better in natural light anyway. The lens has four focus settings. An easy-peasy iconic focus indicator allows you to opt for portrait, small group, big group or infinity. The plastic lens and soft-focus effect produce images that have a dreamlike, vintage quality that is difficult to replicate with other cameras. The resulting images often have vignetting and light leaks that add to their charm and character. Creative control

So when I had my brief encounter with the globetrotting Littlest Holga, I thought I’d double dip. In other words, do a Holga 120N review to go along with the post I did showing the shots I got from it. Before this camera, I’d never used a TLR before. Over the last year or so I’ve found that every time I use this camera my entire image making process slows down. Composing through a small-ish waist level finder is not particularly easy, so I take a lot more time to compose. This slowing down has helped me to be a lot more deliberate and thoughtful with my image making Meanwhile, the 120CFN has a colour flash, while the most alphabet-heavy Holga of them all – the 120GCFN – has a glass lens and a colour flash. Imagine that. A two-option weather guide helps you to select the right aperture size. The ‘sunshine’ icon represents f/11 – or switch to ‘cloudy’ f/8 for dull and nighttime shots. I felt ashamed by my rather haughty dismissal of a camera I had never seen, and I promptly got myself one. At the time, the only one I found available was used, but it seemed pretty serviceable. I had been working on a long-time project of shooting old storefronts (still am), modelled after James and Karla Murray on the old storefronts of New York City. The first week of August in Astoria, Oregon, where it was fogged-in and overcast. Holga 135BC, Lomography Color Negative 400 film. The maritime hardware store is still very much in business.

But when it came to buying my first Lomo camera, a few months later, it was not the SuperSampler that I seriously considered putting money on. No, I was very certain it had to be a ‘proper’ camera. Something with a viewfinder that I could see through so I didn’t feel completely at the mercy of the photo-gods! And, of course, it had to be reasonably cheap to buy and operate. I’m not a millionaire-in-waiting, after all. Cameras are a just a tool to create images. A camera is only as good as your imagination and creativity. The limitations of Holga can be daunting, but once you learn how to use it and work around those limitations, these things are amazing and fun.

Holga 135BC Specifications

I think photography has gotten too easy. I don’t know if that’s actually a bad thing. Sometimes we just have to “let go.” Cameras are a tool that we use for self expression. The control we get from modern cameras can be a crutch. A lot of us try to hold on to that control too tightly.
