Jayne Anne Phillips is—quite simply—the best new writer I’ve read in years. She sees through the ordinary In the film, isolated old house Eel Marsh House has been seized by the British government during World War II. When a group of evacuated children arrive at the house they awaken its ghostly inhabitant. her intro is class: ‘characters & voices in these stories began in what is real, but became, in fact, dreams. they bear no relation to living persons, except that love or loss lends a reality to what is imagined.’ The war ended too soon. She didn’t finish her training. She came home only to nurse her mother and to meet my father at a dance. She married him in two weeks. It took twenty years to divorce him.”

Now playing for 29 years, it is firmly established as London's longest-running ghost story and the second longest running play in the West End. Another timeless thriller, Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap takes the top spot as the world's longest-running show (66 years), having opened in 1952. First time watching the show and it was unforgettable. Boyfriends favourite show but never seen in this theatre. He didn't stop smiling Two of the stories also seem to have the same female lead character but with different names (and even have the characters relating the same anecdote unless I'm confusing that with Machine Dreams which I read recently) , but that's a very minor quibble; I'm sure these numerous stories were written over a span of many years. Susan Hill's acclaimed ghost story comes dramatically alive in Stephen Mallatratt's ingenious stage adaptation - "The most brilliantly effective spine-chiller you will ever encounter" (Daily Telegraph). Now celebrating three decades in the West End, Robin Herford's gripping production is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror. “One of British theatre's biggest - and scariest - hits” (The Guardian). Second time seeing this wonderful play and production. From set, lights, sound effects, props and actors were top drawer. This suspenseful ghost story will make you want to see this play again and again. This is a second interpretation of the story. The short story begins with a statement that attempts to connect to the reader, and basically all of humanity. Everyone eats and sleeps, therefore the narrator is attempting to come across as normal. However, she feels an unusual connection between sleeping, eating, and sex. In sleep, she feels free and weightless and able to escape reality. In eating, she feels sensual and intimate. In sex, she also feels limitless and liberated, but also as if she is attached or being held down, suggesting that her morals are pulling her down as she has sex with potential strangers. When the narrator tries to explain these things to him (who could be basically anyone, considering the title), he attempts to comfort her but doesn't seem to truly listen to her feelings. She still feels as though she is in a shadow, or not truly present. He added "At the end of forty weeks, the outgoing actors can give the play intothe hands of a new pairing of actors, and this is to give the play a new lease of life."

The play unfolds around the conversations between the two gentlemen as they act out the solicitor’s experiences on Eel Marsh. Phillips wonderfully catches the tones and gestures in which familial love unexpectedly persists even after altered circumstances have made it impossible to express directly, and the ways in which gown children, while cherishing even an unrewarding freedom, can be caught and hurt and consoled by their vestigial yearning for dependence, safety, a human closeness that usually seems forever lost.” Wilton’s recent theatre credits include Cat On A Hot In Roof (Theatre Royal Northampton) and The Sound of Music (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) . The introductory scene was quite longwinded. Mundane due to repetitiveness. The second part was satisfactory overall. Personally, I wouldn't recommend to others who are seeking for a thrilling experience.

Felt a little let down by this show. The theme was weak and the entertainment value was low. Not one of the best in my opinion. It had potential but was very boring and not engaging with the audience it was very pretentious! And me and my partner was very much disappointed as we spent our money giggling away at our own entertainment. This short story portrays the life of a mother and daughter—the daughter, Kate, a young graduate student struggling to pay rent and find love, and a middle-aged widowed mother in an empty house. The mother develops a brain tumor the doctors believe to be malignant. However, Kate's brother Robert doesn't wish to tell their mother. Meanwhile, Kate develops symptoms similar to her mother's: headaches, delusions, and confusion. The two struggle together against the brutality and loneliness of life as they care for one another symbiotically. Kate realizes her duty and privilege in caring for her mother as she falls ill, for Kate's mother cared for her in her times of need. The story concludes when the two ride a Ferris wheel together, and Kate's mother assures her that the storm is “going to pass over” (198), [2] symbolizing an attempt at optimism and strength through the circumstances they must face together.
