Looking to the clouds or the dark hull of the ferry, and it’s not too crude with HDR and contrast either.

With 4x more pixels than traditional Full HD, Hisense's 4K UHD resolution delivers breath taking picture quality and pin-sharp clarity. The Hisense 55A7GQTUK QLED Series TV offers excellent value for money. The TV’s QLED technology and Dolby Vision HDR provide excellent picture quality, comparable to more expensive models from other brands. The TV’s smart features are also comparable to other brands, and the TV’s connectivity options and input ports provide flexibility when connecting other devices. Additionally, the TV’s two-year warranty adds to its value proposition, providing peace of mind for buyers. The Hisense U8GQ is the company’s top-of-the-line LED LCD set. It replaces the U8QF from last year, carrying the same design and several of the same features, too. Moving to the Rec.709 HD colour gamut results and with the white point corrected we also have a near reference result with just two small errors seen on the graph. However, our DeltaE errors are an average of 1.73, so well below the visible threshold of three and we couldn’t see any issues with TV and film viewing. These are impressive SDR results from the Hisense. Both techniques use an LCD screen that emits no light by itself. The difference is in the lighting behind the screen. With LCD screens this is done by CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent lamp) and LED makes use of LED lights.Switch to standard-def content from the built-in tuner and the Hisense copes much better, largely because the higher frame rate of the signal requires less processing from the TV, and the motion smearing issue is almost gone. The A7GQ also features Hisense’s propriety smart TV system, VIDAA U5.0, as well as Freeview Play with all the UK terrestrial catch-up apps and services. The VIDAA system is intuitive to use and runs at a decent speed from button press to app opening and playing, plus there is Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube in 4K HDR. There is a content discovery feature along with direct one-press buttons on the remote and there is also compatibility with Alexa for voice commands. We didn’t have any issues at all with VIDAA which stands up against other providers such as Android.
Hisense 50A7GQTUK, 50 Inch QLED 4K UHD HDR SMART TV
The supplied remote control is a traditional long plastic affair with the buttons all laid out in a logical manner. There are easy to use menu and directional keys as well as direct one-press access to apps such as Freeview Play, Netflix and Prime, to name three. The remote sits neatly in the hand and is easy to use. The Hisense 55A7GQTUK QLED Series TV does not feature a One Connect Box. A One Connect Box is a separate device that connects to the TV and houses all of the TV’s input ports and other connectivity options. This allows for a cleaner and more streamlined look, as all cables can be hidden away in the One Connect Box. While the Hisense 55A7GQTUK QLED Series TV does not have a One Connect Box, it does feature multiple input ports, including HDMI and USB ports, providing plenty of options for connecting other devices. This partially depends on personal preference, but as a rule of thumb the optimal viewing distance is about 3x the diagonal screen size of the television. For a television of 60 inch (152cm) the optimal viewing distance would be 180 inch or about 4.5 meter.It is available in screen sizes of 50- (50U7QFTUK), 55- (55U7QFTUK) and 65- (65U7QFTUK) inches. We are reviewing the 55-inch version, but the performance between the different screen sizes should be similar. Smart features are provided by the fifth generation of Hisense’s home-grown VIDAA system. This has evolved into a pretty effective platform these days, combining a crisp, clean layout with good responsiveness and a solid set of video streaming apps that now includes long-term absentee Disney Plus.
