About this deal

I'm a seedling gifted to him by the cosmos, planted in the muddy cave of his chest under overturned soil. I grow best in his climate, he knows this, we're a perfect match. Stevie was great. I really felt for her whole journey; before her accident her need to get out of Wyatt was palpable, and after I was so annoyed at everyone lying to her. I just wanted to keep her safe from it all. FORGET ME NOT Pressed Flower Bookmarks, Blue Garden Flowers, Farewell, Romantic Valentine, Friendship, Reading Gift

Unfortunately, the more I read the more I realized that as bad as some characters’ behaviors were (Neil, near to bullying, harassing and gaslighting his so-called FRIEND; Matt and his anger and violence issues that cannot be justified by the sole excuse of protectiveness…) they actually stemmed from the FMC’s actions only.

Did we miss something on diversity?

Like many of her generation, Sophie Pavelle is determined to demand action on climate change. In her hilarious and thought-provoking first book, she describes the trips she took to see ten rare native species: species that could disappear by 2050 and be forgotten by the end of the century if their habitats continue to decline. Astronomy-loving Calliope June has Tourette syndrome, so she sometimes makes faces or noises that she doesn't mean to make. When she and her mother move yet again, she tries to hide her TS. But it isn't long before the kids at her new school realize she's different. Only Calli's neighbor, who is also the popular student body president, sees her as she truly is—an interesting person and a good friend. But is he brave enough to take their friendship public? Have to state the obvious first: this cover is so gorgeous! Would honestly call this one of the prettiest covers of books I’ve read this year.

Do you know those books? That seem sweet and gentle but are so brutal at the same time? That read so easily until you fully get what’s underneath? That can leave a knot in your stomach and make you almost stop breathing? If I’m a book, then he is all the lines between every sentence. He’s the curve of each letter reaching out to kiss the next, the swooping song of every italic, the pausing breath of well placed punctuation. I am the words, but he is the way in which you read them.I meant to just read the first few chapters of this and found myself instead reading it in one day. Even though we know the answers, it was compelling to watch Stevie try to piece together what happened in the time she lost and consider whether she really needs to recover it or whether she should embrace the opportunity to start fresh. After all, in this missing time she apparently became more distant from her friends and family and also applied to the local community college when she’s been waiting her whole life to go somewhere new. Does she really want to be that person? Have you ever wanted to be friends with someone new, but you felt pressure from other kids not to make a new friend? How did the situation turn out? The thing about myself and Silas, is that we already know each other. The same way the sea will always know the sand. Existing together in waves, rolling, tumbling, sometimes calm and quiet, others like a rip current. The two of us swirl inside one another perpetually, stir and then settle - maybe we could exist apart, but what is more beautiful than the way the surf and sand refuse to stop kissing each other?

I loved how Calli wasn't defined by her Tourette's. She was this sweet, funny, smart girl, who loved the moon and wore vintage clothes and had to deal with her mom's issues. Her Tourette's was a part of who she was, but she was so much more than that, and it was sad when people couldn't look past her facial tics or uncontrollable habits to see the brilliant girl underneath. The amnesia trope is one of my favorites in fiction and up until recently, kind of a unicorn in sapphic stories. There’s a lot going on in this book which could have set up a mess of a narrative but the author does a good job of keeping it all together. The big moment of truth is great but it’s the little clues that make or break an amnesia story. Stevie has to rebuild her sense of self from the bits told to her by others. Lies, prejudices, hidden agendas, nobody is a reliable narrator she is learning. Meanwhile, Nora has to eat her own heart, watching and hoping that somehow she and Stevie can still be together.
