Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update - Energy Information Administration". Archived from the original on 2001-08-15.

As the most commonly used fuel on the road, many of us worry about the price of white diesel. This is particularly true in 2022, when UK households are facing unprecedented rises in living costs and trying to find ways to save. for maintaining golf courses and community amateur sports clubs (including activities such as ground maintenance, and the heating and lighting of clubhouses, changing rooms etc)

Buying white diesel in bulk is typically cheaper than purchasing in smaller quantities. This is because buying DERV is bulk often lowers the price per unit and can result in large savings. However, because the price of white diesel can change throughout the day, the cost of buying bulk fuel can also fluctuate. Biodiesel is obtained from vegetable oil or animal fats (bio lipids) which are mainly fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), and transesterified with methanol. It can be produced from many types of oils, the most common being rapeseed oil (rapeseed methyl ester, RME) in Europe and soybean oil (soy methyl ester, SME) in the US. Methanol can also be replaced with ethanol for the transesterification process, which results in the production of ethyl esters. The transesterification processes use catalysts, such as sodium or potassium hydroxide, to convert vegetable oil and methanol into biodiesel and the undesirable byproducts glycerine and water, which will need to be removed from the fuel along with methanol traces. Biodiesel can be used pure (B100) in engines where the manufacturer approves such use, but it is more often used as a mix with diesel, BXX where XX is the biodiesel content in percent. [26] [27] The Hydrocarbon Oil Duties Act 1979 ( HODA) is the UK primary legislation on the taxation of hydrocarbon oils, including defining the different types of oils, excise duty charge, the rebate for heavy oils and associated penalties for misuse of rebated oils. Section 12 provides for where a rebate is not allowed, and where use and taking in of rebated heavy oil is not permitted, and section 24A provides where marked oil may not be used and for penalties for misuse of marked oil. Schedule 1 sets out which vehicles are ‘excepted vehicles’.

Removing most red diesel entitlements will help to ensure that the tax system incentivises users of polluting fuels like diesel to improve the energy efficiency of their vehicles and machinery, invest in cleaner alternatives, or just use less fuel. These tax changes should therefore have a positive impact on carbon emissions and air quality. US EPA, OAR (2015-07-24). "Learn About Impacts of Diesel Exhaust and the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA)". www.epa.gov . Retrieved 2023-04-29.Red diesel is diesel used mainly for off-road purposes, such as to power bulldozers and cranes used in the construction industry, or to power drills for oil extraction. It accounts for around 15% of all the diesel used in the UK and is responsible for the production of nearly 14 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. Red diesel used in the construction and infrastructure building sectors was also estimated to have caused 7% of nitrogen oxide emissions and 8% of PM10 emissions (a type of particulate matter) in London in 2018. There are green diesel alternatives widely available today, but we believe the best to be HVO fuel.
