In 1967, Zino Davidoff was approached by Cubatabaco, Cuba's state tobacco monopoly, about creating a line of cigars carrying the "Davidoff" name. The non-cigarette portion of the Davidoff tobacco brand is owned by Oettinger Davidoff AG, which is based in Basel, Switzerland. The scent itself reminds me to a restrained, tamed version of the divine, wonderful Obsession for women with a little rose soap added, and the overall feeling I get from it reminds me to Jaipur Homme, another refined classic masterpiece.

PS Tom Ford is a master in bringing back to life hidden streams (or forgotten ones) in the magmatic perfumery landscape, looting from French classics, reviving the core ideas, modernising it and giving new life. It's a shame that the industry has moved away from a cologne/purfume that has a decent range without breaking the bank. The company was acquired by Imperial Tobacco in 2006, and still produces a range of products under the Davidoff brand, including not just cigars but pipes, humidors and male fragrances. Zino valued simplicity and wanted to share the happiness that comes from enjoying beautiful things – and it was through his products that he set out to share this spirit with the world.

The opening has a more dominant bergamot, but after that, they run neck and neck all the way to the finish line.

With the move to the Dominican Republic, the Château series was renamed "Grand Cru", and the individual formats were numbered instead of carrying the names of vineyard estates.In 1990, after discontinuing Cuban-made products, Davidoff started to produce cigars in the Dominican Republic. In 1971, the Davidoff "Mini Cigarillos" (short fillers made of 100% tobacco) and, in 1972, the first Davidoff pipe tobaccos were released. This superb cigar starts with white pepper notes and spices, before journeying through the peaks and valleys of Nicaragua with creamy and then sweeter notes. Héritage has gravitas but can (for me) be a bit insular and sad, whereas Zino puts me at ease, feels attractive and reassuring. In 1976, the "Mille Series" and, in 1977, the “Dom Pérignon” cigar, named after the champagne, were released.

And what is noteworthy: both fragrances are on the theme of amber and patchouli, and both are about sensuality and a sudden strike of passion.He is credited with inventing a desktop humidifier in which cigars could be kept at the same degree of humidity and temperature as in Cuba.
