You want a great all-rounder: The Edge 40 not only looks good but offers a great display, a capable rear camera and rapid charging tech. While there's still a 50-megapixel main, but it doesn't give quite as impressive results as the flagship phone - or indeed some cheaper phones like the Pixel 7a. There's a clear case in the box, although you might want something that's more exciting to protect your phone.

The Motorola Edge 40 is a very solid midrange smartphone that primarily stands out on account of its slim and light case. Certainly, you don't get all the bells and whistles of a much more expensive flagship phone thrown in here – there’s no there’s no dedicated zoom camera, variable refresh rate display, or 12GB of RAM, for example. If you extend the measurement from the small image section to the full screen, the result doesn't look much worse. There's one area where I think it could be better: when hotspotting on this phone, I found it would often say there was no connection, when the phone was still connecting data services with no problem.It’s just frustrating that the phone’s auto-refresh rate setting doesn’t ever crank it up to the full 144Hz, instead capping out at 120Hz. We're taken by the design, the large display with curved edges sitting neatly into the hand, with a quality to the build backed up by IP68 protection. Fast charging The 4400mAh cell of the Edge 40 can be charged rapidly thanks to 68W TurboCharge capabilities, and the fast charger even comes in the box. It’s just shy of Samsung’s standard, but still one of the better options, especially in the mid-range market.
