I've also experimented with salt on top of the latex masking fluid as it's drying - that helps break up the painted edges and roughen them up. If you choose to tumble dry your dark clothing, it is best practice to do this on low heat with clothes turned inside out. Moreover, washing on a short cycle helps black clothes maintain their colour – the less time they spend in the water the better.

Washes are perfect for blending the edges of camou-flage colors with the base colors of a model, and they can be mixed with pigments to obtain a wide range of effects such as oil and flaked rust, mud, earth, dust, moss, etc.Formulated to soften, clean and boost fragrance, sprays for fabric and textiles are the best way to prolong the life of your items. Yep - it acts as a light, transparent adhesive that'll hold the salt lightly in place and stop it getting blown away when you spray with paint.

When the washes are mixed with acrylic colors, they further help achieve the appearance of heavy wear and weathering. Since the areas of the miniature that will be in shadow are basecoated dark, the shadows will be easy to get sufficiently dark.

I am thinking about adding one more step to my ROTJ Hasbro Black Series conversion, and it occurred to me I've heard of people doing a kind of a "wash" to even out and slightly dull down the helmet to give it a worn look. If you've got any questions about something in this post, shoot me a comment and I'll be glad to answer.

Starting off on the right foot It might seem like common sense, but it pays off to start out the right way. Joel from over at Mordian7th sent me two bottles of Army Painter Ink (Strong Tone and Dark Tone) and told me these would do it. Ammo filters can be used in many applications such as model railways, wargaming, Sci-Fi/fantasy, mecha, 3D printed figures, military modelling, role-playing games and many other model weathering applications. The nice thing with all this is that if you give your plates a good scrub in warm soapy water with a plastic scourer it'll erode the paint in all those random ways that would take far too long to paint by hand.

Washing is the application of a diluted paint in an area, crevice, nook or contour to define and highlight that area. Chalk/Mineral paints (including the Dixie Belle Coffee Bean I used on this piece) don’t require sanding because they stick well, but seeing as I sell my pieces I like taking the extra step on these types of shiny surfaces. Sure, your bigger models will take longer and if you're sloppy, you'll have to go behind and clean it up.

This post will look at how I apply the standard GW decal to a model without using Micro Set/Sol and then trying to use them for the first time. This technique tends to be messy, so put newspapers or other absorbent materials over your work area before beginning.
